We are into the All Star Break for the NBA, and after a weekend full of dunk contest questions and a pretty good Rising Stars Game, what will the second half of the season bring for some of the East?

The hottest team in the East heading into the break was the Toronto Raptors. Even though they slumped just slightly ATS heading into the break, they still have been the best bet of any NBA team over the last 25 games. Toronto is 19-7 ATS in their last 26 games heading into the break, and although they might see a slight regression ATS in the final 30 games, I doubt it is anything drastic. The Raptors will likely still be a pretty solid wager going forward. They are chronically undervalued in most games, especially at home. Teams going into Toronto have a very tough time, and a lot of the time they are coming off a back to back in the states the night before. This is probably the third or fourth best team in the East right now, and with their balanced scoring and solid defense, they could surprise some people in the playoffs.

Chicago has been another good team recently, but much more recently than the Raptors. The Bulls covered four of their last five games ATS heading into the break, and this is not common. Chicago has been traditionally very overvalued in the last few seasons, but now that they are only an average basketball team, there are certain situations where they could continue to be a solid wager ATS. However they have a very tough schedule coming up after the ASB, and that will either help them tremendously ATS, because of how undervalued they’ll be, or it will make them big fade material. I’m honestly not sure which way it will go, but if I had to guess, I doubt Chicago suddenly becomes a great wager ATS.

Some of the teams that could be however are definitely in the Eastern Conference. We have seen the Raptors, Bobcats and Wizards, three seemingly bad teams become great ATS wagers this season. The Raptors will likely still be an ok bet most nights, but the Wizards are a hot team as well, and I think they have the best chance of sustaining a run into the second half. Washington has one of the best backcourt duos in the East with Bradley Beal and John Wall, and with the solid depth in the front court, this team is a lot better than in years past. We are conditioned to fade some of these teams because of how bad they were, but this is a new look Washington team.

Another team that has been good ATS is Charlotte, however they might go back to being overvalued in some instances because of the return of Kemba Walker. Throughout the first half, the Bobcats were solid ATS on the road, however recently it’s been their play at home that has cashed winners. They covered three of their last four home games going into the break, and if Walker can stay healthy down the stretch, this team should sneak into the playoffs. I’m just a bit weary as to their ATS success going forward.
