NBA Betting: Basketball Sunday Playoff Prop Picks of the Day

Sunday, April 17, 2016 2:17 PM GMT

Thanks to Rockets not showing up other than to fight and push the Warriors, we were just one Howard rebound shy of a perfect NBA picks day. However, I am back to try and keep the momentum going.

Playoff Prop Record: 2-1

Nicolas Batum O/U – Points, rebounds and assists
In my NBA Picks of the day article, I mentioned that without Chris Bosh, the Heat have one less matchup nightmare waiting for the Hornets, Well, it’s also true that the Hornets now have a matchup nightmare of their own without Bosh, and it comes in the form of Nicolas Batum.

With the Heat playing small and playing Luol Deng at the four, that means Joe Johnson will be defending Batum in this one. While Johnson was once a solid defender at one point, he is no longer. Johnson is simply too sloe and undersized to give Batum any sort of issues in this one.

In their last three games against one another, Batum is averaging 16.6 points, 8.3 assists and 7.3 rebounds. At his prop price tag, Batum is a great value to go over this points, rebounds and assists prop.

The Heat did rank 13th against small forwards this season, but that was with Deng starting there for more than half the season. This season, Johnson is allowing players he defends to shoot over 65 percent from within ten feet, and Batum is going to be taking him off the dribble a lot in this one.

Free NBA Pick: Nicolas Batum Over 27.5 points, rebounds and assists (-115)

LaMarcus Aldridge O/U – Points and rebounds
Back in the early part of the season after the Spurs got blown out of the water in their first meeting with Golden State, LaMarcus Aldridge played horrible in that game. He went so far as to get rid of his social media accounts after that game, but since then things have been clicking for the Spurs big acquisition from the offseason.

Aldridge has been instrumental in the Spurs season, and with all of the injuries issues for the Grizzlies, Aldridge is going to feast against this weakened Memphis frontcourt.

Even though his finger is a little banged up, I doubt it has a huge effect on his game against these Grizzlies. In Aldridge’s last two games against Memphis, he went for at least 31 points and 12 rebounds in each of those games.

Plus, in the last four weeks, Memphis has been the worst team at defending power forwards, giving up an average of 26 points and 14 rebounds per 48 minutes. Aldridge is going to have a field day against this Grizzlies team.

Free NBA Pick: LaMarcus Aldridge OVER 29.5 points, rebounds and assists (-120)
Best Line Offered:  at Heritage

Charlotte Hornets O/U 98 points
There is some question as to whether the Heat are going to play faster in the playoffs like they did at times during the regular season, or are they going to slow down the pace and play a methodical half court game. I think it’s going to be a mixture of both, because I think the Hornets are actually going to force them to play a little faster.

Even though Charlotte played in the lower half of the league in pace this season, they are facing a veteran team that they can beat in transition. This should lead to Kemba Walker getting out to run more, and the rest of the Hornets following suit.

Plus, the Hornets were the middle of the road in defending against fast break points, so all in all, the Heat have some motivation to run as well. With Miami’s defense having a tough matchup in this series as well against a younger and deeper team, I think the formula for Charlotte to get to 99 or more points in this one is good.

The Hornets had a big game against the Heat last month in Miami where they scored 109, so I don’t think the road playoff game is going to scare them tonight; in this case, the NBA odds boards make me lean to the 'Over'.
