As we head full steam into the 2016-2017 season, we begin our breakdown of the improved Atlantic Division. Here is a look at the NBA Odds for the favorite, the first underdog and the best long-shot candidate.

The NBA Future Odds for each are out at Bovada and several others of our Preferred List of Sportsbooks, where you can compare not only the book but their bonuses too before choosing your NBA pick.

The Favorite – Boston Celtics

The Celtics may be young, but they proved that even without much experience, they are good enough to make the playoffs in the East. They won 48 games and got the fifth seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs last season, finishing eight games out in their division to the Raptors.

However, this season they will hopefully have Jae Crowder healthy for the year and along with newly signed Al Horford and Isaiah Thomas on board as well, this team is deep enough to win the division.

However, I would lay off for now. The Raptors are still a very good, if not the best team and the Celtics also have to contend with improved teams in Philadelphia and New York as well. It’s going to be close, but at -105, this is a no play for me.

The First Underdog – Toronto Raptors

The same can be said about the Raptors in terms of whether or not they are a good play here. It’s essentially a coin flip right now between Toronto and Boston and while the Raptors will presumably have a healthy DeMarre Carroll and with newly inked Jared Sullinger they are going to be a force in the East.

The question for them is depth. They lost a key bench guy in Bismack Biyombo and with a bunch of guys and no true threat on their bench, they better hope they don’t have any injuries. This may be the biggest difference in Boston and Toronto right now, because after signing DeMar DeRozan to a huge deal, the Raptors had little money left for their bench.

The Long Shot – New York Knicks

I know Knicks fans, as much as you want to believe in Derrick Rose and Joakim Noah staying healthy, even then it’s going to be tough to beat out Boston and Toronto. However, New York has some intriguing upside and this is by far the best team New York has had in the last five seasons. While health is important, the biggest thing the Knicks need is a hot start and a few breaks to win this division.

At this point, it’s another no play, which seems to be the theme for this division’s future odds from Bovada. However, I can understand if you want to place a wager on the Knicks at 10/1. Most of the models I see have the Knicks projected between 44 and 47 wins, so if Boston isn’t as strong and Toronto sustains a key injury, the door is open for New York, I just don’t think they’re quite ready to walk through it yet.
