Monta Ellis has been out of the league since the 2016-17 season but he's looking to make an NBA comeback with a championship contender.

The 33-year-old put together solid numbers over 12 years in the league, although his scoring declined in his final two seasons with the Pacers.

Per ESPN's Jordan Schultz: "Amar'e Stoudemire and Monta Ellis will workout privately for at least five NBA teams from 6-7pm — in Las Vegas — on July 8, a source tells ESPN. Both players are healthy and hoping to sign with a contending team, such as the #Lakers."

[/]{"component": "embedHTML", "code": "

Monta Ellis held private workouts for 5 NBA teams tonight...comeback season ;/a>
— (@Ballislife) July 4, 2019
"}[/]

Ellis averaged 17.8 points, 4.6 assists and 3.5 rebounds and 1.7 steals over 833 career games with the Warriors, Bucks, Mavericks and Pacers and he would be a strong fit with the Lakers and Clippers.

If the Lakers land Kawhi Leonard in free agency they will be cap-strapped and in need of players willing to sign minimum deals and Ellis would be a solid option because he would provide depth and scoring off the bench. Ellis could thrive with the Lakers because of the number of open looks he could see by playing alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis.

He would also make sense for the Clippers. Lou Williams, Patrick Beverley, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Landry Shamet and Rodney McGruder give them depth at guard but Ellis can provide another scoring spark off the bench and make them even more dangerous.

Odds to Win the 2019-20 NBA Championship
(Courtesy of Jazz Sports)

Los Angeles Lakers +175

Milwaukee Bucks +650

Toronto Raptors +850

Philadelphia 76ers +900

Golden State Warriors +1250

Houston Rockets +1250

Utah Jazz +1350

Denver Nuggets +1750

Los Angeles Clippers +1750

Brooklyn Nets +2500

Portland Trail Blazers +2750

New Orleans Pelicans +3300

Oklahoma City Thunder +3500

Boston Celtics +3750

Dallas Mavericks +5250

Indiana Pacers +6000

San Antonio Spurs +6000

Orlando Magic +10000

Sacramento Kings +10000

New York Knicks +15000

Atlanta Hawks +15000

Chicago Bulls +15000

Miami Heat +15000

Minnesota Timberwolves +20000

Phoenix Suns +20000

Washington Wizards +20000

Memphis Grizzlies +25000

Detroit Pistons +30000

Cleveland Cavaliers +50000

Charlotte Hornets +50000
