Maybe you got rocked on all of your NFL Super Bowl bets last night, however fear not. Even though football is over, and with baseball still a ways off, the NBA is the only game in town for the next two months, and tonight’s NBA slate is worth a look. 11 games line the schedule tonight, and there are plenty NBA Odds that appear to have value, and could build your bankroll back up.
Pistons vs. Heat
This is probably my favorite matchup of the night outside of Grizzlies and Thunder, and the NBA Odds favor the Heat at -9 ½, with a total of 207 ½. This could easily be a first round playoff matchup in the Eastern Conference, and both of these teams create matchup nightmares for one another.
The Pistons have no one to defend Lebron James, and after his dominating performance against the Knicks, James could do it once again at home with Josh Smith defending him. On the other side, the Pistons’ size could present as big or even a bigger problem than James presents by just showing up. With an average front court size of 6’10 for Detroit, the Heat are going to have big issues if the Pistons grab a lead and force the Heat to matchup with them. Even if it goes the other way around, the Heat will likely win the game SU. However I see the total being a better value on Monday night.
The Pistons have cashed the over in 15 of their 22 road games this season while the Heat cash the over at home at 15-8 this season. In the last ten games, the Pistons are close to giving up 104 points per game, and this season, the Heat have cashed the over in 19 of their 31 conference games. This could easily be a back and forth game with plenty of offense, and even though I think the NBA Odds for the spread are out of reach, I like the over tonight at 207 ½ for our NBA picks.
NBA Pick: OVER 207 ½
Spurs vs. Pelicans
These two teams are dealing with a ton of injuries, and the NBA Odds favor the Spurs at only -4, with a total of 194. The Spurs got Tiago Splitter back a few days ago, which should immediately help their team. Splitter (and his post defense) is one of the most underrated players in the entire league, and his presence tonight against Anthony Davis should be huge. It will allow Tim Duncan to play defense on whomever else is in the game in the Pelicans’ frontcourt, which should really help his offense on the other end.
I’ll start by saying I really like the spread as well in favor of the Spurs, however once again I think the over is the play in this game at 194. Even though Splitter will improve the overall defense of the Spurs, and even with New Orleans playing better defense lately, I think the over is the play. Two of the last three times these two have played the total went over, and the two times they played this season, the Spurs scored 112 and 101 points respectfully.
San Antonio’s road defense has been good but in their last ten games overall, the Spurs are giving up 98 points per game. Assuming that’s the Pelicans’ floor tonight, I think the over has good value. The Pelicans are giving up nearly 102 points per game this season, and 194 might just be a bit too low.
NBA Pick: OVER 194
