It’s a huge night in the NBA to get the week started right, and I have chosen to highlight two of the biggest games as my NBA Picks of the day. Don't miss these plays and cash in.

Rockets vs. Pelicans
One of the games that starts at 8 PM Eastern tonight is the Rockets heading into New Orleans to play their divisional rival, the Pelicans. New Orleans has been looking better recently, so this one should by all accounts be a pretty good game. The NBA odds agree, as the Pels come in as a -4 ½ favorite at home, with a total of 214 ½ points. While the spread seems right on target for the game tonight, the total is where I am looking for value, and between two teams that play very little defense and have the ability to score with the best of them, the over might be a great play, even though this is by far the highest total on the slate tonight.

So far this season the Pelicans have been very good cashing the over when playing at home at 14-6, while the Rockets have also been respectable cashing over the total when playing on the road at 11-9. This is because the Pels are averaging nearly 107 points per game when playing at home this season, compared to just 105 overall, and about 103 points per game when playing on the road. Houston on the other hand has one of the worst road defenses in the league this season, giving up 106 points per game on the road.

However, Houston also can score the ball on the road with the best of them, and with both teams coming into the game with small win streaks, the scoring should be plentiful. The over cashed in their only meeting so far this season after a 110-108 score in New Orleans the day after Christmas, and with the over cashing in four of the last five overall, and in five of the last six road games for the Rockets, it should be good again tonight. New Orleans is also on a nice over cashing streak heading into this one, cashing it on their last five games overall, and 4-1 in their last five home games. Plus, with Houston coming into this game after playing last night, it adds even more value considering the Rockets are 8-3 this season cashing the over when playing on no rest.

Hornets vs. Kings
The Hornets are one of the most banged up teams in the league right now, but even though they are down several starters in this one, with one more heading for a questionable tag, can they really stay with a Kings team that is finding their groove here at the halfway point? The NBA Odds have the Kings as -6½ favorites in this one with a total of 211 ½, but as long as the Hornets bring their defense to Sac-town tonight, I think they are still being undervalued despite the spread and their injuries.

Granted, the Hornets will have no one to defend DeMarcus Cousins tonight with Al Jefferson and Cody Zeller both out, but outside of him, the Hornets have the advantage at point guard with Kemba Walker playing some of the best basketball of his career, and if Rudy Gay misses this game again, I think it’s a nice value to take the points with the Hornets for our NBA picks.

Charlotte won and covered their first meeting at home against the Kings this season, but obviously they were a bit healthier in that one. However, if Nic Batum is able to suit up tonight, and Gay is out, that is enough for me to take the points. Even banged up, the Hornets have still played well recently, winning their last two games SU and ATS, and while the Kings have been pretty unstoppable recently, if Cousins gets into foul trouble tonight or gets pulled away from the basket trying to defend Frank Kaminsky and Spencer Hawes, it’s realistic to think that the Hornets could keep this one within five to six points. Sacramento is only 4-4 ATS at home against the East this season, and if they don’t come to play tonight and maybe let down some riding in on their winning streak, the Hornets could be some sneaky cash tonight.
