The Boston Celtics are the hottest team in the NBA, and this handicapper expectigs things to continue to go swimmingly for the C's in Atlanta on Monday night among his picks.

Celtics at Hawks

The Celtics are taking an eigh- game winning streak to Atlanta on Monday in hopes of improving on their league leading 8-2 record. One of the main reasons that the Celtics have gone on this winning streak has been the intensity in which they play defense. During the winning streak the Celtics have yet to give up more than 94 points.

The Hawks, on the other hand, just snapped an eight-game losing streak with their 117-115 win at home against the Cleveland Cavaliers. Atlanta has struggled mightily at stopping opponents from scoring, coming into the game giving up an average of 110.6 points per game, 26th in the league.

Boston is establishing itself as one of the elite teams in the NBA, and a lot of that credit has to go to head coach Brad Stevens who continues to be masterful with his in-game decision making and always puts his team in the best position to win. Good coaching will have a team prepared, even when coming into the second night of a back-to-back and having had limited preparation and scouting on an opponent.

Nets at Suns

Phoenix has gotten into a nice groove after having put up some of the worst performances the NBA has ever seen to start the season. The Suns ultimately went on to win four of their next five games after a horrid start, but have seen that production tail of, as they have lost their last two contests.

These two teams just met a week ago in Brooklyn and the Suns mounted a furious comeback in the fourth quarte,r going on a 24-8 run over the last seven minutes to steal a 122-116 victory over the Nets. Brooklyn has figured out style that suits them, and that is playing fast. The Nets lead the entire NBA in pace with 109.3 possessions per game, four possessions more than the next team, which happens to be the Phoenix Suns.

This should be a very fast-paced game with lots of scoring.

Heat at Warriors

The Warriors will be starting an eight-day homestand with a game against the Heat, who are coming off a win over the Clippers in LA yesterday. I’ve commented in this column space before about the difficulties of playing back-to-back games in the NBA, and going up against the defending champions does not make that job any easier. I also have lamented how little effort it seems the Warriors intend on putting forth in the early portion of this season, making it very difficult for them to cover all of these double digit spreads that Vegas seems to be laying on them. Look for the Warriors to continue their winning ways, just not by 16 points.
