The Lakers are hoping to win their first game with LeBron James in uniform while their guests, the San Antonio Spurs, bowed in their Saturday night showdown with Portland but hope to get back on track on Monday night in LA.

Tony Parker decided to spend the sunset of his career in Charlotte and All-Star Kawhi Leonard has been shown the door while DeMar DeRozan was welcomed through it. There is certainly plenty to digest and reason for optimism with DeRozan, LaMarcus Aldridge, and Rudy Gay as San Antonio’s Big Three but injuries to Dejounte Murray, Derrick White, and Lonnie Walker, ironically the Spurs’ 2016, 2017, and 2018 first round picks respectively, have put a damper on the youth movement. Murray and Walker may miss the remainder of the season and White won’t be back until late November at the very soonest.

LeBron James hopes to bring Showtime back to LA but thus far the Lakers are winless in their first two games to start the season. To be fair Los Angeles has lost to a pair of Western Conference powers in Portland, and most recently Houston, but both those games were also blown ATS covers for those who backed LA in their NBA picks. LeBron led the team in scoring in both contests, bucketing 24 and 26 respectively, but was unable to get his new team across the finish line first. On Monday night the Lakers will get a crack at playing a less talented team than those they have faced and LA fans are salivating at the prospect of celebrating LeBron’s first win as a Laker.

[/]{"component": "embedHTML", "code": "

🎥 Seven Lakers reached double-digits in scoring tonight, but they fall to the Rockets, 115-124. pic.twitter.com/fdT14gSLPJ
— Los Angeles Lakers (@Lakers) October 21, 2018
\n\n"}[/]

The Lakers have dominated the Spurs recently, winning their last four in the series and doing it as an underdog in each and every one. Of course, LeBron had no part in any of those games, as he was a member of the Cleveland Cavaliers, but doing it again in front of what will be a raucous Forum crowd will be the sweetest of them all. In addition to getting LeBron his first win as a Laker and the team’s first win on the season as motivating factors, there are several trends that are working in LA’s favor as they prepare for their first meeting of the season with the Spurs. Check them out:

Lakers are 8-2 ATS in their last 10 home games vs. a team with a road winning percentage of less than .400.

Lakers are 4-1 ATS in their last five vs. NBA Southwest.

Lakers are 4-0 straight and ATS vs. Spurs over their last four meetings.

Spurs are 1-4 ATS in their last five Monday games.

Spurs are 1-4 ATS in their last five games following an ATS loss.

Spurs are 1-4 ATS in their last five games playing on one day’s rest.

Spurs are 1-5 ATS in their last six after allowing 100 points or more in their previous game.

Spurs are 1-10 ATS in their last 11 road games.

Monday night should see an inspired Lakers’ performance after their melee against Houston on Saturday night in which Houston’s Chris Paul, as well as LA’s Brandon Ingram and Rajon Rondo, were all ejected for fighting. Keep your eye on the NBA odds board and grab the sharpest number on the Lakers to dribble past San Antonio on Monday night.
