Milwaukee Bucks at Detroit Pistons

This series has been a complete clunker, but at least for the Pistons they got Blake Griffin back last game. However, that probably won’t change much other than giving the Pistons the ability to burn anyone laying the points with a back door cover.

Instead I think we can look to the totals in this game to make some cash and it’s the Bucks’ first half team total that has caught my eye. At only 57 points, it’s ripe for an over play for several reasons.

The first is that Detroit has shown no ability to stop the Bucks in the first half, whether it’s at home or on the road. Milwaukee is averaging 62.4 first half points against the Pistons over three playoff and four regular season home meetings. Four of those were in Milwaukee, but the other three the Bucks are still averaging 61.3 first half points in Detroit this season.

If you look at Milwaukee’s advanced metrics, you see the same story. The Bucks are posting a first half offensive rating of 126.6 in the playoffs and over their four regular season meetings they averaged 121.1 points per 100 possessions in the first half against the Pistons.

The Bucks smell blood and with the Celtics already sweeping the Pacers out of the playoffs, the last thing Milwaukee wants to do is give their eventual second round opponent extra rest. I see Giannis Antetokounmpo and company running up the score in the first half in order to try to rest some in the second. Even with Griffin back for the Pistons, the Bucks are hanging 60 in the first half and another 115 to 120 points in the game.

First Half Score Prediction: Bucks 60 – Pistons 52

Houston Rockets at Utah Jazz

Free NBA Pick: Rockets ATS 1H

I’m very tempted to take the points with the home dog here, but it’s becoming incredibly tough to trust the Jazz with the Rockets playing as well as they are. Instead, another first half play is likely the best option for this game.

The Jazz have played outstanding in the first halves of these first three games and it’s one of the reasons they are on the verge of sweeping the series. The Rockets are averaging 121.8 points per 100 possessions in the first half and they have only allowed 97.3 to the Jazz. That is pure domination.

Even after the Jazz led at the half in Game 3, the Rockets still came back and were able to win the game. With a Warriors win leading to their advancement into the second round, I know the Rockets want to finish up this series in Salt Lake City.

Much to the same vein as the pick above, I think the Rockets will use their underrated defense and very efficient offense to take a lead in the first half. Houston is 6-2 ATS in the first half in their last eight playoff games against the Jazz. I like them to continue it on Monday.
