It’s a busy Monday in the NBA, and with so many games on tap for this afternoon and this evening, we have less time to figure out where the value lies. The NBA Odds came out early yesterday evening, and I think I have identified two more valuable NBA Picks. After a nice Sunday, let’s carry the streak over into the new week.
Mavs vs. Cavs
This early afternoon game has the Mavs as -1 ½ road favorites in the NBA Odds, with a total of 209. Afternoon games are tough on NBA players, and despite neither team having to play yesterday, getting up for a 1 PM Eastern game is going to be hard, especially the Mavs.
However this close spread has almost no value to me, but the total of 209 looks great for an under bet for this afternoon’s game. The Mavs have been hitting the under a lot recently, especially on the road. Five of their last seven road games have gone under the total, and for Cleveland, the under has cashed in seven of their last ten games overall.
With Luol Deng now on the team, the Cavs’ defense has and will likely continue to improve a lot, and he will be a welcome defender on Dirk Nowitzki, despite being slightly undersized for the task. Even though Kyrie Irving can’t play defense very well, he likely won’t have to defend Monta Ellis in this game, which will likely help out the play on the under.
Even though they don’t meet often, the under has cashed the last four times these two teams have gotten together, and the under has cashed in seven of the last ten overall meetings as well. With Cleveland’s defense improving by the game, I doubt the Mavs bust out a big scoring effort on the road in an afternoon game. Both teams are rested, and it should lead to some grogginess and more defensive effort. Take the Under in this affair for your free NBA picks.
NBA Pick: UNDER 209
Nets vs. Knicks
Brooklyn has had three full days off before this game, and seeing as it’s basically a home game, the Nets are looking great here as -2 NBA Odds favorites on the road. With Deron Williams set to make his return, and all of the injuries for the Knicks, there is great value for this holiday matinee in Madison Square Garden.
While Brooklyn has had plenty of rest before this game, the Knicks are playing their fifth game in eight days. With limited front court help, the Knicks are sitting ducks against a Nets team with plenty of rim attackers. With Williams back, along with Joe Johnson and Paul Pierce, the Nets will have their way in the paint. Even though Tyson Chandler will do a great job when he is in the game, the 18-20 minutes he sits on the bench are going to be tough for the Knicks defensively.
Things have changed a lot since the first meeting between these two teams back in early December. The Knicks rocked the Nets in that game in Brooklyn, 113-83, however with their bench decimated recently, the Knicks are going to find it hard to keep up with the rejuvenated Nets in this afternoon game. Pierce will be able to slow down Carmelo Anthony enough to get the victory.
NBA Pick: Nets -2
