It’s the start of another week of NBA action, and with the new year approaching, the NBA schedule is somewhat lighter this week. There are seven games lining the schedule tonight, and I have found some value in a couple of the late games. Let’s take a brief look at some of the key factors and matchups, and see which games I have my eye on tonight.
Bobcats vs. Jazz
Utah is a -2 favorite in the NBA Odds tonight, with a total of 188 ½. The Jazz have been getting better with the return of their rookie point guard, Trey Burke, however tonight against Kemba Walker, I don’t think Burke is going to play his best game. That is why I really like the Cats as a +2 underdog.
Charlotte has been wildly undervalued this season on the road, as they have amassed an 11-1-1 ATS record playing away from home. The Bobcats are also very undervalued on defense. They are the 2nd ranked road defensive team in the NBA, only giving up 94 points per game, and against the Jazz tonight, I could easily see them limiting the Jazz to the low 90s. Granted, the Bobcats haven’t been a great road scoring team, but they play so slow that it is bound to happen.
Not only do I think the Cats can cover tonight, I could see them winning outright. They have played two great games against the Thunder and Hawks recently despite losing, and I think they will turn things around tonight on the road right in time for our NBA picks.
NBA Pick: Bobcats +2
The late game this evening is between the Suns and Clippers, and the NBA Odds have the Clippers as an -8 favorite, with a total of 210 ½. These two teams have yet to play one another this season, but I think the Clippers are the play. Los Angeles plays much better at home both on offense and defense, and while this should be a higher scoring affair tonight, I see the Clips coming out on top. They are averaging 111 points per game this season when playing at home, and I think they will dominate both the point guard and big men battle tonight.
Chris Paul should dominate either Eric Bledsoe or Goran Dragic tonight, and while I really like what Miles Plumlee has done this season, going up against Blake Griffin and Deandre Jordan is likely not going to go well. The Clippers are 3-1 ATS in their last four matchups with the Suns, and I see them continuing that trend tonight.
If indeed the Suns try and play fast tonight, it should play right into the Clippers’ hands. The Clippers are one of only a few teams in the NBA that can play fast as well as they play in the half court. The Clippers should out-rebound the Suns easily, and their bench will probably outplay the Suns. Although I really like Phoenix this season, I can’t see them hanging. They have been wildly undervalued in the NBA Odds this season, but it should turn around eventually, and it might start tonight.
NBA Pick: Clippers -8
