Minnesota Timberwolves At L.A. Clippers: Thursday, January 19 NBA Picks Of The Day

The Clippers’ loss of Chris Paul is going to sting, but they aren’t down and out like everyone is saying and I think they show it Thursday vs. Minnesota. The Clips are still strong on defense, and they are going to have to win games that way now.

Minnesota Timberwolves Vs. Los Angeles Clippers

The Los Angeles Clippers have now lost Chris Paul for the next 6-8 weeks. Some are saying it’s the end of the Clippers' chances and that this team going to be broken up. I’m not so sure. They want to see this thing to the end, and as long as everyone is back and healthy in April and May is what matters most.

However, until then the Clippers are going to look and play a lot different. Expect a ton of pick and roll and even some post-ups for DeAndre Jordan, along with the Clippers’ guard depth all stepping up.

The Wolves’ interior is going to cause some issues for the Clippers, but I think that’s one of the reasons I have a beat on this game. The Wolves already don’t play fast at all, and without Paul the Clippers have slowed down this season.

LA plays at a pace of 96.4 possessions per 48 minutes. Their defense takes a hit without Paul, but as long as Jordan is there clogging up the paint and protecting the rim, I’m not too concerned about their defense here.

The biggest thing is pace. According to NBA Wowy, the Clippers actually drop in pace with Paul and Blake Griffin off the court this season. The sample size is small, but if Doc Rivers plays motion offense with some pick and roll vs. Minnesota, LA isn’t going to be running up and down the court.

That could lead to a much lower-scoring game. The total shot up this morning and is now starting to move the other direction, and I think I’m following it.
