Miami gets a chance to host one of the best offensive teams in the NBA in the Houston Rockets. After coming back from a rough road trip I am sure the Heat will be glad to play at home, can Miami hang with the high-scoring Rockets?

Houston Rockets

Houston comes in averaging 114.9 points per game which ranks second in the NBA. They also rank second in both shooting efficiency and effective field-goal percentage so far this season. Mike D’Antoni has put in his very efficient offense which has propelled Houston to one of the league’s best records and has made them also into a contender in the West. Across the board they’ve been extremely efficient and currently have +7.3 scoring margin which ranks third in the NBA. However, on the other side of the ball they have been less than stellar allowing opponents an average of 39.9 field goals made per game which ranks them fourth to last in the NBA. As well, across the board their defensive statistics are not very good ranking in the bottom third in most defensive categories. I can understand why they are heavy favorite in this spot considering how efficient they have been this season. But Miami, although on a losing streak, can play some pretty tough defense at times and I expect them to hang within the number.

Miami Heat

Miami is averaging just 98.3 points per game which ranks them second to last in the NBA. As mentioned, they are coming off a pretty tough road trip but despite the losses they were actually decently competitive in their last three games against some of the league’s best competition. The issue has been on the offensive side where they simply have not been efficient at all ranking last in shooting efficiency and shooting just 43.9% from the floor which ranks them 25th in the NBA. That being said though, with them being at home I like for them to be reasonably competitive tonight with Houston considering the fact that Miami despite their offensive woes are actually a decent defensive team. Currently Miami ranks fourth in the league allowing opponents to shoot just 48.5% on their two-point shots and they rank in the top 10 in most defensive categories. If they can slow down Houston, and I think they can, they should keep this game at least a little bit interesting for the most part. Grab the points.

NBA Odds

Oddsmakers have come out making Houston a -7.5 favorite across the board but for my NBA pick, I will back Miami getting the points. Although Houston has been extremely good this season, Miami can be feisty at times and they are coming off some rest. Expect a maximum effort from the Heat.
