One of the hottest teams in basketball since the beginning of 2017 has been the Miami Heat. Today they take on the Toronto Raptors who look like they could be a contender for the Eastern conference championship. Oddsmakers have made Miami a decent home favorite, can they handle business at home?

Toronto Raptors

The big story out of Toronto of course is that they are without All-Star guard Kyle Lowry, but even with him I believe they will have trouble tonight against a Miami team playing top-notch basketball. The last time these teams met up was just a couple of weeks ago in which Miami handled business winning by 15 points and I don’t see that changing very much in this matchup. On the season Toronto is averaging 107.1 points per game and rank in the top part of the league in most offensive categories. However, it is on the other side of the ball in which I believe they will be exposed tonight against a Miami team that can really wear you down. Defensively across the board Toronto ranks around the middle the league in most categories but they rank 18th in opponent shooting efficiency. I just have a hard time believing they will be able to hang within the number against this particular Miami team playing as good as anybody in the NBA.

Miami Heat

Miami has focused a lot this year on conditioning and it is starting to pay dividends as we get towards the end of the season. Offensively they have been less than stellar but they are shooting 45.5% from the floor and rank in the middle the league in most offensive categories highlighted by shooting 36.5% from distance. It is on the other side of the ball is where they really thrive and get after teams as they rank fourth in the league in opponent effective field-goal percentage, opponent shooting efficiency, and opponent two point shooting percentage. Across the board they’re one of the best defenses in the league and they don’t allow a lot of ball movement ranking second in opponent assists per game. This is where the game I think will be settled tonight and although one might expect for Toronto to come in and keep this game close considering the last time they were here, I will gladly lay the number with a Miami team that takes it to another gear in the fourth quarter.

NBA Odds

Oddsmakers have made Miami a -4.5 favorite and for my NBA pick, I will take them minus the points. Although I expect this to be a toughly contested game Miami has a propensity in the fourth quarter to wear teams down. Expect that type of scenario tonight with Miami winning by close to double digits.

Free NBA Pick: Miami -4.5

Best Line Offered: at 5Dimes

[/]{"component":"oddswidget", "eventId":3067763, "sportsbooksIds":[19,1096,93,238,180], "LineTypeId":1, "PeriodTypeId":1 }[/]
