The Golden State Warriors continue to look like the NBA’s best team and tonight they should be able to handle the visiting Grizzlies. Memphis is on a short two-game losing streak but they were able to handle Golden State at home earlier this year.

Memphis Grizzlies

In their only match up with Golden State, this season Memphis came out with an 110-89 victory forcing Golden State into 23 turnovers. In that matchup, the Warriors not only shot poorly from the floor but only got up 77 attempts which are way below their season average. I highly doubt we will see that same sort of shooting performance, or overall performance from the Warriors tonight butI think odds makers have stretched this number just a little bit too much. On the season Memphis is averaging just 98.8 points per game which rank 28th in the NBA, however defensively they been solid across the board. Currently, Memphis ranks third in the NBA defensively in opponent effective field-goal percentage, opponent two-point shooting percentage, and opponent overall shooting percentage at just 43.3%. They also rank first in the NBA in opponent field goals made per game. From the interior extended this is a good Memphis defense, and although they more than likely lose this game they should stay within the number.

 Golden State Warriors

Golden State played their worst game of the year against this same Memphis team back in December. Recently though they are rolling by winning every game since that December 10th matchup except for a one-point loss at Cleveland on Christmas. Despite their current winning streak though we take a closer look at the numbers they are not really dominating their opponents well into double digits except for a couple of games. More recently in their last four games since Christmas, they have won consecutively by 10, nine, eight, and eight the other night to Portland. With oddsmakers setting this total again at double digits I see no reason why Memphis can’t make the game at least somewhat interesting. Statistically, Golden State has been very good on both sides of the ball ranking first in the league in most offensive categories and either first or second on the other side of the ball in most defensive categories. No doubt this is a great team but for me, this is the numbers play that has me backing a good veteran team in Memphis.

NBA Odds

Oddsmakers opened with Golden State as a -14 favored across the board. This makes some sense considering there is a revenge factor, but this is a decent Memphis team that will be fully focused tonight so for my NBA pick, I will take the Grizzlies. Expect for them to be scrappy enough to stay within the number.
