One of the many games tonight is an early evening showdown between the Dallas Mavs and the Boston Celtics. The NBA Odds have the C’s as +4 ½ home dogs, with a total of 199 points. There are several injuries to note for this game starting at 6 PM Eastern, so let’s run though them and see what matchup problems they will present for both teams.

Monta may be away

The biggest question mark for this game is the status of Monta Ellis, who injured his hamstring in the Mavs’ last game, and is a game time decision for tonight’s game. If Ellis can’t go, it might take a hit to the Mavs’ scoring, however they have more than capable fill ins like Vince Carter and Devin Harris, who is fresh back from injury.

The Celtics aren’t without concerns of their own. Rajon Rondo missed the C’s last game with general knee soreness, and although that doesn’t sound too serious, it is exemplified due to the fact he is coming off of an ACL injury. His status will not be determined until tip off, so watch out for nes coming out around 5 PM Eastern time.

The C’s are also dealing with an injury to Avery Bradley, who is questionable for the game tonight. Bradley is by far the Celtics’ best defender against a guard considering Rondo is still on the mend, Bradley’s presence to defende opposing point guards is huge for Boston.

The status for all of these guys is up in the air, and it makes the spread very difficulty to wager. The NBA Odds were very late coming out this morning and due to all the guard injuries, I’m pretty surprised the sportsbooks released a line at all. Due to this, I am much more excited about a wager on the total than the spread.

Sunday NBA Picks of the Day

The Sharp Pick

Dallas has been scoring well recently, but they have been giving up some points as well. Due to this, the over has been a great play recently. The over has cashed in five of the Mavs’ last seven games overall, and the over has cashed in four of their last road games.

Boston has struggled to score sometimes this season, however at home things should get a little bit better for the Celtics. Obviously the status of Rondo and Bradley will mean a lot to the C’s scoring in this game, however the Mavs are not great defensively, so I don’t think it will be crucial. Rondo will hopefully be able to play after what was seemingly a rest day for him a few nights ago, and if he is in, the C’s offense should be in good hands.

Boston’s scoring has been pretty good recently. In their last three games, they have scored 96, 114 and 99 points respectfully, and against the Mavs, they should easily have a floor around the mid 90s. Even though Dallas might be without Ellis, their scoring shouldn’t take a huge dip. No one on the Celtics will be able to slow down Dirk Nowitzki, and I expect a game well into the 200s for our NBA picks.

The Sharp Pick: OVER 199
