The Los Angeles Clippers are the highest-scoring home team in the league, as they prepare to take on the Dallas Mavericks Wednesday night. While the spread might look tempting, find out why we have our sights set on the total for our NBA picks tonight.

Let’s take a closer look at the NBA odds for this Western Conference matchup, with the opening tip scheduled for 10:30 p.m. ET.

Revenge factor

Dallas has won four of its last six games since suffering a 119-112 defeat to the Clippers as two-point home underdogs Dec. 3, while going UNDER the betting total in five of those six contests.

The Mavericks are led by forward Dirk Nowitzki on the offensive end, as he’s averaging 21.2 points per game, but he’s scored just 32 combined points in the last two meetings in this series at this venue.

The squad is 3-4 SU and 5-2 ATS as road underdogs of 3.5 to 6 points, with the UNDER going 4-3 in that situation.

Long trip ahead

Los Angeles will head out on a seven-game road trip after this affair, as it was last seen on the court picking up a 123-87 blowout victory over the Lakers as 10-point home favorites last Friday.

The Clippers are 17-3 SU at home this season, including an 11-2 mark versus conference rivals, as they try to win their fourth consecutive game over the Mavericks in Southern California.

Over the last two-plus seasons, the franchise is 9-3 SU and 7-5 ATS at home with a betting total of 205 to 209.5.

Forcing turnovers

NBA handicappers will be interested in backing the road underdog in this spot, considering the Mavericks are averaging 21.8 points off of turnovers in their last six contests.

Dallas has also recorded 14-or-fewer turnovers in seven straight and 10 of its last 13 games.

Starting point guard Jose Calderon has done a great job of taking care of the basketball, as he’s averaging a career-low 1.2 turnovers per game.

Scoring at home

The Clippers lead the NBA in points per game at home, as they average 1.1 points better than the Portland Trail Blazers in that statistical category.

Los Angeles has been getting tremendous offensive production from forward Blake Griffin over the last month, as he’s scored 25 or more points in eight of 15 games since Dec. 14.

I’m going to recommend that readers play the total with their NBA picks, as the OVER is 20-9 in the Clippers’ last 29 home games.

NBA Pick:  Over 207.5
