If you have a chance to beat the San Antonio Spurs there are two things, one, you should catch them off the back to back, and two, the game has to be in your house. Do we smell an upset?

NBA Pick: Pistons +7

NBA odds have made Detroit a +6.5 underdog and the total around 194. For one of my selections today, I will back the live home dog to hang in with the Spurs. This is a great coaching matchup with Greg Popovich and Stan Van Gundy.

San Antonio Spurs
San Antonio is averaging 103.6 points per game on 49.1% shooting from the field, and allowing 89.7 points per game on 42.7% shooting from the field. San Antonio has been amazing against the spread this season going 26-12 overall  and 7-3 in their last 10 games prior to their matchup with Brooklyn yesterday. Offensively they rank first in the league in shooting efficiency and two point shooting percentage, as well as number two in three point shooting percentage, and effective field-goal percentage. They are a very efficient scoring machine, and honestly this is a tough play for me because personally they're my favorite team in the league. Personal feelings aside, I'm going to go where the value is and that is with Detroit, who oddly is my favorite team in the East because I'm such a big Stan Van Gundy fan. Defensively the Spurs are the best team in the league, hands-down. They rank first in scoring defense, opponent field goals made per game, and opponent three-pointers made per game. The Spurs also rank in the top five in all of the major defensive categories. Tonight the reason to go against them is simple, they are in a tough spot. If there is any time when San Antonio has not played at a superior level it would be on the road, which is what we have tonight. Add that to the fact that they are off a back to back and there is some value on a very well coached, athletic Pistons team.

Detroit Pistons
Detroit is averaging 101.2 points per game on 42.8% shooting from the field, and allowing 99 points per game on 45.2% shooting from the field. Like San Antonio they have been very good against the spread going 21-14 overall with two pushes and a solid 13-4 with one push at home. As mentioned, I'm a big Stan Van Gundy fan and I like what he has done with this team since last season. Offensively they still have a ways to go as far as their efficiency is concerned but they run a good tempo and really like to put up shots averaging 88.6 field-goal attempts per game which ranks second in the league. The problem is they don't make a lot of the shots as they have one of the worst shooting percentages in the NBA. However, they do shoot the three decently well averaging 8.8 per game, and they do score a lot in the paint thanks to Andre Drummond averaging 44.4 points per game which ranks seventh in the league. Drummond is also the main reason why the Pistons average 58.5 rebounds per game which ranks first in the NBA. Defensively they have been better-than-average and like the Spurs defend the perimeter very well allowing just 33.4% shooting from distance, along with allowing only 6.8 three-pointers made per game which ranks third in the league. They also have been good in limiting assists allowing just 20.6 per game.

This should be one of the better games of the day but the value rides with Detroit tonight. For one of your NBA picks, I recommend backing the Pistons plus the points to hang in with San Antonio and possibly pull off the upset. This is a good situation to grab the points and go against arguably the best team in the league.
