As the Orlando Magic travel to Memphis tonight for an inter-conference game against the Grizzlies, the NBA betting odds have set the total at 204 and the point spread at 12.5. How will you bet?

Orlando Magic vs. Memphis Grizzlies (-12-) 8:05 ET
Orlando travels to Memphis tonight for an inter-conference game at the FedEx Forum against the Memphis Grizzlies.  This contest pits an also ran in the East vs. a legitimate contender for Western Conference honors.  Memphis enters on a 2 game winning streak, while Orlando enters having lost 5 straight.  But, as we see each night in the NBA, the ebb and flow of the 82-game schedule results in great situational spots for outmanned underdogs, who are playing with negative momentum.  Just a situation exists tonight with the Orlando Magic when they take to the floor as 12 ½ point underdog.

As the Grizzlies look to integrate newly acquired Jeff Green into their starting rotation, this looks like it could be a potential flat spot for the Grizz.  They do enter with the solid momentum of a 6-1 SU ATS run.  Their solid defensive play allows just 97 PPG, narrowly trailing Portland for the best defense in the league.   It is questionable how much effort they put forth tonight, knowing they must travel to Dallas tomorrow for a much higher divisional profile game.  In that regard, note that Memphis is just 1-3 ATS as double digit favorite this year, a continuation of a role that saw them go 2-5 ATS as such last season.   The Grizz is a team who loves to control tempo and win games with their defense.  That is a major reason why they have been an unprofitable investment in the role of large favorite, and an important thing to keep in mind when placing NBA picks on this team.

Orlando enters on a cold streak at 0-5 SU ATS that began with a 106-96 loss to this Memphis team, January 16th.  In the losing streak, they have allowed an average of 116 PPG.  But, the Magic have been a far better team away, 10-17 SU vs. 5-15 SU, on their home court.  It has showed in their pointspread results as well with the Magic being 16-6 ATS as road dog of 4 or more points.  That includes covers in their last 5 games in which they received 5 or more points.  It is this same type of “never say die” attitude that has allowed the Magic to slip in under numbers against superior opposition.

Let’s try this big dog, who can do no worse than come through the back door against a disinterested Memphis team who could well get caught looking ahead to their game with Dallas tomorrow night.
