The LA Clippers are off to a good start as they chase a second consecutive Pacific Division title, and there's still room for improvement. Barring unforeseen circumstances the Clippers will make the playoffs again this season; are they good enough to at least get to the conference finals?
On the other end of the spectrum the New York Knicks might be the most disappointing team in the league so far this NBA season. Do we smell dissension in the ranks?
Knicks-Clippers Betting Odds
Most NBA sportsbooks opened LA at -10 for tonight's game, with a total of 204, and there was very little movement in those numbers during the early betting.
New York has lost six games in a row, after falling at Portland Monday night 102-91. The Knicks fell down by 16 points after one quarter and never recovered, failing to cover as seven-point dogs.
So at 3-10 New York sits in last place in the Atlantic Division, although it's only three games back of first-place Toronto.
But in failing to meet expectations almost every time out the Knicks are also just 3-10 ATS on the season.
On the chalky side of this match-up Los Angeles has won two straight, after drubbing Chicago Sunday 121-82, covering at -6.5 betting odds.
So at 10-5 the Clippers lead the Pacific Division by one game over Golden State. They're also 8-7 ATS.
Knicks-Clippers Recent History
LA swept the two games from New York last year by scores of 102-88 and 93-80, winning the first game outright as three-point dogs, then pushing at -13. The Clippers shot a combined 48 percent from the field in those two games, while holding the Knicks to 40-percent shooting.
Both those games played UNDER their totals of 192 and 194.
Knicks-Clippers By the Numbers
New York ranks 26th in FG shooting at 42 percent, 20th in 3-point shooting at 33 percent and 18th in FT shooting at 74 percent. The Knicks also rank 21st in FG defense, allowing foes to shoot 46 percent from the floor, and second-worst in the league in rebounding at -3.7 per game.
Sometimes statistics do tell the truth.
LA ranks fourth in shooting at 48 percent, 16th from long range at 36 percent and just 26th in FT shooting at 70 percent.
Two games ago the Clippers were favored by 10 points over Sacramento, but only won by one point, after going 26-for-45 from the FT line. And a couple weeks ago LA was favored by 13 points over Brooklyn, but only won by seven, in part because it went 20-for-30 from the line.
The Clippers also rank just 23rd in FG defense at 46 percent but 10th in rebounding at +1.1 per game.
Knicks-Clippers Betting Trends

Los Angeles is 7-1 SU but just 4-4 ATS at home.
The Knicks are 6-7 on the OVER/UNDERS this season, as their games have averaged 193 total points.
LA is 9-6 on the totals, as its games have averaged a healthy 211 points.
Knicks-Clippers Injury Update
New York G Raymond Felton has missed the last four games with a sore hip, but might be ready to go Wednesday night. But C Tyson Chandler is still out with that knee injury.
Our Take on Wednesday's Game
The Clippers are not quite yet an elite NBA team, but with improvement on defense they could be. At the moment, for the most part, they're still just out-gunning teams.
On the more troubling side of this match-up the infighting has begun among the Knicks; it seems only a matter of time before an implosion occurs.
We're almost tempted to take the dog in this game, because the line seems a bit inflated, and LA has some problems shooting free-throws. But at the moment we just can't recommend taking a team in such turmoil as New York.
So we'll go with the Clippers at the -10 points offered at Pinnacle for one of our free NBA picks for Wednesday.
