Both San Antonio and Detroit have won four out of their last five games which makes this an interesting matchup tonight.  Can Stan Van Gundy rally the Pistons to pull off the upset?

San Antonio Spurs

San Antonio still remains among the quietest winning teams in the NBA this season simply just going about their business in a methodical manner. For the past two months they have picked things up on the defensive end and currently are allowing just 98.8 points per game which ranks second in the NBA defensively. As well, they rank in the top five in most defensive categories highlighted by allowing opponents just 33.8% from distance ranking them also second in the NBA. On the other side of the ball they have been equally efficient shooting 47.7% from the floor and shooting 40.7% from distance ranking them second and first in the NBA in those categories respectively. This is going to be a great matchup tonight and although San Antonio continues to find ways to win I think Detroit matches up with them very well and should be able to take this game to the final buzzer.

Detroit Pistons

Like San Antonio Detroit has picked things up on the defensive side of the ball allowing just 38 field goals made per game by opponents ranking them sixth in the NBA. Although they haven’t been as dominant as San Antonio they’ve been great in keeping teams from getting up and down as they rank first in the NBA in opponent fast-break points. Currently they are allowing just 101.9 points per game which ranks them fifth in the NBA, but what I like about them tonight is that they are allowing opponents just 24.5 three point attempts per game which ranks them third in the NBA. On the other side of the ball they have not been nearly as efficient shooting just 45.7% from the floor which ranks them right in the middle of the league. However, they are getting up shots at a good rate at 87.4 attempts per game and dropping 39.9 of those both of which ranks them sixth in the NBA. This is the staple of a good Stan Van Gundy team, play great defense and get up your share of attempts. They should be well fired up to play an extremely good San Antonio team and I like for Detroit to not only stay within the number but possibly pull the minor upset.

NBA Odds

Oddsmakers have made Detroit a plus for home underdog in the spot and I will gladly grab the points for my NBA pick. Despite the difference in statistics Detroit matches up well with San Antonio and should be able to at worst take this game to the wire.
