On a night where there are five teams that are -9 favorites or higher, the Pacers and Clippers present what could be the game of the night. What will be the smartest NBA pick here?

Paul George For MVP
After breaking his leg in a freak accident almost 18 months ago, Paul George has come back and not only regained his form from before the injury, he has looked like a better player. George’s three-point shooting has returned and is now one of the best in the NBA, and his defense has remained stellar as expected. His all around efficiency isn’t great considering he is playing multiple positions, taking a ton of shots and having to be the elite player at both ends, but in this game against a team that can’t guard small forwards, George might go crazy.

No matter who the Clippers start at small forward on Wednesday night, no one is going to be able to hang with George. With him setting the tone for the rest of the Pacers, I don’t see the Clippers being able to match that tonight. With Chris Paul questionable tonight with a rib cartilage injury, the Pacers have that much more value. While shoot around has not happened yet, if Paul misses it, I am surely taking the points before the Pacers’ NBA odds come down to a PK. Even if Paul plays though, the Pacers look like the best play. George Hill is a very credible defender against Paul if he plays, so even if Griffin goes off against a softer Pacers frontcourt, Indiana should hold down everyone else, and George will match or exceed anything Griffin can do in this one. Hey, and if all else fails, just put DeAndre Jordan on the free throw line!

The Sharp Pick
The Pacers have started the year as the best team ATS at 11-5, which matches their 11-5 record to start the season SU as well. Indiana went through a partial remake this offseason losing their two plodding big men, and they have been playing with a much improved pace and offense, and they have been bringing the same defensive intensity. Compare that to the Clippers who have been one of the more overvalued teams in the NBA to start the season, and the Pacers could be a solid play here. Indiana has gone 6-2 ATS on the road to start the season, while the Clippers are 4-8 ATS at home on the year. While they have been quickly improving their slow start to the season on defense, the Clippers’ offense has recently been slowed down by the hack-a-DeAndre strategy. No word on whether or not the Pacers will have to employ this strategy, but with a solid defense and with the momentum, I am taking the points with the Pacers tonight for my NBA picks.

Indiana has covered in four of the last five meetings these teams have played against one another dating back to the 2012-2013 season, and Indiana is 5-1 ATS as a road underdog this season, compared to LA at 4-7 ATS as a home favorite.
