With a battle still going for a spot in the playoffs we should have a really good matchup when the Houston Rockets take on the Dallas Mavericks in Dallas. What's the best NBA pick here?

A bit surprising is that the road team Houston has been made the small road favorite although the Mavs are on a four game winning streak.  Which team will get one game closer to securing a spot?

Betting Odds
Oddsmakers have Dallas as a +2 underdog on the NBA odds board like at BetOnline -110.  This seems to make some sense considering their recent streak is nothing to shout about but for one of my NBA picks today I will back them plus the points. I like some of their lineup changes and expect for them to win tonight.

Houston Rockets
The Rockets average 106 points per game which ranks fourth in the NBA and average 10.6 three pointers made per game which ranks third.  With just a game out of the hunt this is a big game for them tonight but I like how Dallas matches up with them at home.  They put up the three a lot averaging 30.8 attempts from distance per game but they only shoot 34.4% from that range.  This will be a point of contention as although the Mavs allow teams to get up a lot of shots they do defend from beyond the arc well allowing opponents to shoot exactly what Houston averages, 34.4%.  What really bothers me about the Rockets is their lack of defense from the inside out.

They rank in the bottom third of the league in most defensive categories and rank 25th in opponent two point shooting percentage.  That could be problematic against a Dallas team that thrives around the perimeter averaging almost 50% on their two point shots which ranks 12th in the league.   As well, the sign of how poor this team is defensively is highlighted by allowing opponents to move ball with other teams averaging 24.6 assists per game which ranks Houston last in the NBA.

Dallas Mavericks
Dallas is on a four game winning streak and averages 9.8 three pointers made per game which ranks seventh in the league.  They are also one of the best free throw shooting teams averaging almost 80% from the charity stripe.  Overall offensively they match up very well with a bad Houston defense with their best categories hitting Houston where they are the weakest like two point shooting percentage, as mentioned, and their three pointers made per game where the Rockets rank second to last in the league.

Dallas is decent defensively and  on the other side of the ball they match up well with Houston with their defensive three point percentage, as mentioned, and allowing just 40.6 points in the paint which ranks seventh in the league, another strong point of the Rockets.  With key injuries to Deron Williams and Chandler Parsons it looked like the Mavs were done but J.J. Barea has stepped up being named Western Conference player of the week and Justin Anderson has filled in nicely.  Expect the Mavs to continue their current streak.
