In what should be the highest scoring game of the night, the Rockets head into Sacramento to play the Kings. The NBA Odds have the Kings as -1 ½ favorites, with a total of 219.

NBA Pick: Rockets & Kings 'OVER' 219

The Insufferable Rajon Rondo
Rajon Rondo will not play tonight after being suspended for a game for muttering homophobic slurs to Billy Kennedy. Rondo has made a career about almost being likable before he throws himself off the likability cliff, and he has outdone himself with this last one. While it doesn’t matter what you may think about it, Rondo is hurting him team, his image, and the league doing stuff like this, and in my opinion the suspension should have been longer.

Now that we have the administrative stuff out of the way, we can get down to talking about the business of basketball tonight, and how the Kings will fair without Rondo on the court. While Rondo is having a rebirth of his career in Sacramento, the Kings haven’t been that bad without him on the court either. Even though he hasn’t spent much time not play because of the big minutes, when Darren Collison is on the floor, the Kings still play well. They played fast and strong offensively last season with Collison in the lineup, and tonight they shouldn’t miss a beat. Although the Kings’ Offensive Rating goes down slightly without Rondo on the court, it’s not enough with Collison in there to make it noticeable against the Rockets, who are already bad defensively, and might be even worse tonight off the back to back.

The bigger factor in this may be the pace the Kings play at with Collison. The Kings might end up playing faster with Collison in the lineup, because Rondo is such a good half court player. If the Kings do speed it up tonight, the NBA Odds total of 219 may be high, but it also may still be low enough to where the over is the play.

The Sharp Pick
Both of these teams are giving up 107 points per game or more, and the Kings have been even worse over their last 10 games giving up 110 per game. This will be the third time these two teams have played this season already, and in both of the first two meetings the total went over. The over has now cashed in their last four meetings against one another overall, and I think they make it five in a row tonight.

The Rockets have cashed the over in four of their last five games overall, and they have cashed the over at 4-2 in their last six road games. As tired as they might be tonight, and with the possibility that one of their better defenders, Clint Capela might miss tonight after not playing last night, the Rockets will have little resistance for the likes of DeMarcus Cousins tonight. As long as Cousins doesn’t get into foul trouble like he did a week or two ago when these two teams played, I see the total going over for the third time this year, your NBA Picks should reflect this trend.
