Lakers Roster & Starting Lineup With DeMarcus Cousins

Cousins and Rondo will reunite former Pelicans teammate Anthony Davis. The three of them played together in New Orleans in the 2017-18 season.

Anthony Davis (plus-8.5 Box Plus/Minus) averaged 25.9 points, 12.0 rebounds, 3.9 assists, 2.4 blocks and 1.6 steals, shooting 51.7 percent and 33.1 percent from 3-point range in 33.0 minutes over just 56 games last season and he was third in the NBA with a 30.3 Player Efficiency Rating (PER), just behind Giannis Antetokounmpo and James Harden.

Basketball is a team sport and LeBron James and Anthony Davis can’t do it all by themselves, which is why the Lakers are building a roster with decent depth and playmakers, after missing out on Kawhi Leonard.

Lakers Roster & Starting Lineup With DeMarcus Cousins

*Notates expected starter

C: DeMarcus Cousins*, JaVale McGee
PF: Anthony Davis*, Kyle Kuzma, Talen Horton-Tucker
SF: LeBron James*, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Jared Dudley
SG: Danny Green*, Troy Daniels
PG: Rajon Rondo*, Quinn Cook, Alex Caruso

With JaVale McGee, the Lakers get back a big man that played at a high level last season, averaging 12.0 points, 7.5 rebounds and 2.0 blocks in 22.3 minutes over 75 games (62 starts). Having McGee and Cousins allows Davis to be their power forward, the position in which he feels more comfortable and where he can take advantage of his athleticism.

Signing Troy Daniels, Danny Green and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope helps address some of the shooting and defensive depth concerns that surrounded this team last season while Jared Dudley provides depth, toughness and veteran leadership.

The Lakers still had a remaining need on the roster at point guard and they addressed it by adding Quinn Cook, Rajon Rondo and Alex Caruso on cheap, team-friendly deals.

Signing DeMarcus Cousins is clearly a risky bet, but taking a chance on him being a dominant interior force again like he was before all his injuries is worth it because he agreed to a veteran’s minimum deal.
