Twice this season already Cleveland has met up with New York and they have thumped the Knicks both times. Today odds makers have of course made them the favorite on the road, but Cleveland has not been playing elite basketball recently.

Cleveland Cavaliers

After losing three games in a row Cleveland has now won three out of their last four games heading into this contest. Overall they have not looked like the NBA champions that they are but offensively they’ve been clicking quite well averaging 110 points per game which ranks fourth in the NBA. Their shooting statistics are solid as they rank third and fourth in effective field-goal percentage and shooting efficiency respectively, along with shooting 38.3% from distance which ranks him third in the NBA. It is been on the other side of the ball with a have struggled and they might end up giving up just too many points tonight to a New York team that can actually score at times. Cleveland is allowing opponents 104.9 points per game which ranks them 13th in the NBA and across-the-board they rank in the middle of the league in most defensive statistics. I have a difficult time backing them laying the points tonight given this fact and I look for a maximum effort on the other end by Carmelo and company.

New York Knicks

Like Cleveland New York is coming off a win but unlike Cleveland New York has been losing games in bunches since the beginning of the new year. Despite their losing ways versus Cleveland this season I think this is an interesting number and I will gladly grab the points with a New York team that can really score and push tempo. On the season there averaging 105.8 points per game which ranks them 12th in the NBA but they rank first getting up 90.2 attempts per game and fifth making 40 field goals per game. They shoot the ball decently well from distance at almost 36%, but outside all the numbers they should be very motivated to compete tonight. Defensively they will give up their share points, but they have some decent numbers outside of the tempo they allow like ranking seventh in both opponent effective field-goal percentage and opponent three-point shooting percentage. Don’t be shocked if New York actually pulls the upset.

NBA Odds

New York has been made a +6 underdog and for my NBA pick, I will back them plus the points.  Expect a maximum effort by the Knicks.
