Sacramento has had a tough start of the season and has come out limping out of the gates. Tonight their schedule doesn’t get much easier as they take on the Detroit Pistons in Detroit. Can Sacramento find a way to hang in with the upstart Pistons?

Sacramento vs Detroit

Head coach Dave Joerger has not had an easy time so far this season, but not much was to be expected out of this Sacramento team with such a young lineup. This season is going to be very bumpy for them and it does not bode well that so far this season their leading scorer and leading assist guy is their rookie point guard in De’Aaron Fox.  Still, I think they find themselves in a favorable position to at least give Detroit a semi tough time and keep this game relatively close. Last year Detroit was just 5-12 ATS when coming off of a back to back, and last night they had a pretty tough game with Milwaukee so they might not be completely prepared to play at their typical Stan van Gundy level.

Statistically speaking Sacramento might be able to stay in this game because, despite their poor record, they actually have played some pretty decent defense allowing just 82.2 field-goal attempts and 37.6 field goals made per game ranking them sixth and 11th in the league respectively. As well, they were pretty good at defending from beyond the arc and not allowing teams to get easy transition buckets ranking 10th in the league in opponent fast-break points. Offensively Sacramento has been terrible but they do shoot from beyond the arc at a not horrible 33.5% and I believe they have enough to stay within the number for my NBA pick.

On both sides of the ball Detroit has been pretty good but because I believe this game will be a slow pace affair with Detroit allowing opponents just 80.1 attempts per game (ranking first in the NBA) which should help the Kings not get destroyed.  Also, Detroit is far from an offensive juggernaut ranking 25th in the NBA in offensive efficiency and 45.3% overall ranking them 16th in the NBA. Their overall talent should win this game but don’t expect them to cover the spread.  Oddsmakers have kept this line within single digits for a reason.
