In the early 2000’s. the Sacramento Kings-Los Angeles Lakers rivalry was one of the best in the NBA. Watching them go head-to-head used to be must-see TV. Nowadays, both teams are struggling in the worst way. The Lakers are mailing it in while the Kings are reeling without All-Star center DeMarcus Cousins in the lineup. That makes handicapping the NBA spread for their Tuesday matchup all the more challenging.

The Sacramento Kings Can Win Because…
The Lakers are just about as bad. Los Angeles Lakers has lost three straight games and they haven’t looked good in the process. This is a team that has given up at least 104 points in each of those contests. Overall, they are just 5-16 on the season and if you’re thinking the Lakers might have a slight home-court advantage, think again before placing your NBA picks. They have lost six of their last seven games at the Staples Center. The biggest reason for the Lakers failures is the fact that their defense has been deplorable; they allow a league-worst 110.9 points per game, which is the worst in the NBA. It’s hard to fathom a team giving up that much but the Lakers have been historically bad in terms of allowing points.

The Lakers haven’t even been competitive of late as they’ve lost their last three outings by 17, 17 and 16. Is that the type of team you want to be taking a shot with on the NBA odds? Although the Kings have struggled, they’re the more competent team. Take a shot with them.

The Los Angeles Lakers Can Win Because…
The Kings are not the same team when DeMarcus Cousins isn’t in the lineup. And the good news for the Lakers is that it was announced on Monday that Cousins will not only miss this game but could also be out another 7-10 days with an illness. The Kings have now lost 18 of their last 19 games that Cousins hasn’t played, including a 105-96 home loss to the Orlando Magic on Saturday. On Friday, they barely squeaked out a 102-101 home win over the Indiana Pacers. Entering Monday, that was their only win in the last five games.

The Kings are also going to be in a back-to-back situation and playing their third game in four nights in this spot. That’s not going to help. This is a team that’s been struggling as it is. Now they’re going to be playing with no rest, which should give the Lakers the edge they need to cover the NBA betting spread here.

Outlook
This is a hard game to predict. The Kings are playing poorly and are in a back-to-back situation and are playing their third game in four nights. As for the Lakers, they’ve been pathetic all season long from start to finish. It’s a plug your nose and pick type of game but with that in mind, I’ll take the Lakers. They’ll be better rested and they’re at home. That’s about all we’re going on.
