Kevin Durant Injury Update & Free Agency Odds

The Warriors beat the Trail Blazers in Game 4 of the Western Conference Finals last Monday to become the second team in league history to make five straight NBA Finals, joining the Celtics, who made 10 straight appearances from 1957-66.

Kevin Durant has been out with a strained calf since Game 5 of the second round series against the Rockets and the Warriors are 6-0 since he went down, including their four-game sweep of the Trail Blazers in the Western Conference Finals.

Some believe that KD’s calf strain could be an Achilles injury but no major news outlets have confirmed that theory.

Regarding Durant’s return date, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr told ESPN’s Nick Friedell:

“There’s a big range of how long it could be depending on how he responds and how bad the strain is. This one is taking a little bit longer than the ones he’s had in the past, but that’s OK. He’s coming along well and if he continues to improve at the rate he’s improving now, we’re confident that he’ll be back. We just don’t know when.”

The Knicks traded Kristaps Porzingis and decent pieces like Tim Hardaway Jr. and Trey Burke to the Mavericks and finished the regular season with the worst record in the NBA in an all-out effort to tank but the Pelicans won the NBA Draft Lottery and the Knicks will pick third.

New York won’t get Zion Williamson but there’s a light at the end of the tunnel. The latest Kevin Durant to the Knicks rumors indicate that drafting RJ Barrett third overall can help the team land KD. Sal Iacono, better known as Cousin Sal, reported on The Bill Simmons Podcast that Durant is close with Barrett’s godfather Steve Nash, which could be positive for the Knicks.

“He’s very close with Steve Nash who happens to be RJ Barrett’s godfather. So, that’s where the Knicks are landing. That’s their pick because they couldn’t fix [the lottery] so they could get Zion. Anyway, I don’t want to give away too much. You’re right, he’s going to the Knicks and let’s bet that if we can even more.”

Steve Nash is a player development consultant for the Warriors and he’s spent time in the gym with Durant helping him with his shot. The former NBA point guard has complimented Barrett’s game and believes it will translate well to the NBA.

The Knicks are favored to sign Durant at -125 while the Warriors are second with +175 betting odds to re-sign him. In addition to drafting Barrett, the Knicks are looking for another star to pair with Durant and they’re also +100 favorites to sign Kyrie Irving via free agency, also at Bovada.
