Kawhi Leonard Signs With The Clippers & Paul George Will Join Him

Leonard has been recruiting Paul George to find a way to join him in the Clippers and they found a way to pull it off. Leonard and George, two of the best two-way players in the league will now challenge LeBron James and Anthony Davis to be the best team in Los Angeles.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Clippers traded Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Danilo Gallinari, four unprotected first round picks, one protected first round pick and two pick swaps to the Thunder for George. The Clippers now form a duo as talented as any in the NBA.

Acquired in a trade with the Spurs last year, Leonard put together an epic playoff run to lead the Raptors to their first NBA Championship. This is what he had to say about his journey this past year:

“A lot of people doubted me, thought I was either faking an injury or didn’t want to play for a team. That was disappointing to me.”

The star forward became the first player to win NBA Finals MVP in both conferences. He won the award for the first time in 2014 with the Spurs, when he beat the then two-time defending champion Heat.

The now two-time NBA champion averaged 28.5 points, 9.8 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 2.0 steals and 1.2 blocks on 43.3 percent shooting in 40.5 minutes over six games in the NBA Finals against the Warriors, becoming the first player since Larry Bird in 1984 to lead the league in points, rebounds and steals in an entire playoff.

Kawhi Leonard finished with 732 points in this playoffs, the third-most by any player in a single playoff behind Michael Jordan in 1992 (759) and LeBron James in 2018 (748).

Leonard (plus-5.0 Box Plus/Minus) averaged career-highs of 26.6 points and 7.3 rebounds with 3.3 assists, 1.8 steals and 0.4 blocks in 34.0 minutes over 60 games in the regular season and he’s averaging 17.7 points, 6.3 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 1.8 steals and 0.7 blocks in 30.8 minutes over 467 career games (440 starts) with the Spurs and Raptors.

George (plus-5.5 Box Plus/Minus) had successful offseason surgery on his left shoulder to repair a small tear in his labrum in June. His recovery timetable is the same it was when he had surgery on his right shoulder in May and it will be reassessed around the start of training camp.

Paul George ranked second in the league with a career-high 28.0 points and he also averaged personal bests with 8.2 rebounds, 4.1 assists and an NBA-best 2.2 steals in 36.9 minutes over 77 games.

PG13 averaged 28.6 points, 8.6 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.4 steals on 43.6 percent from the field in 40.8 minutes over five games in the playoffs despite playing hurt. He’s averaged 19.8 points, 6.4 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.8 steals in 33.8 minutes over 604 career games (556 starts) with the Pacers and Thunder.
