Star forward Kawhi Leonard is expected announce his free agency decision today and FS1's Cris Carter believes that the Lakers have a strong shot to sign him.

Carter reported that Leonard's decision will likely come today and that he will choose the Lakers over the Raptors, citing the opportunity to win "as many championships as possible" as the deciding factor:

"For Kawhi, this is about which organization is going to support his quest to be the best player in the world and get as many championships as possible. To me, the only team that presents that is the Lakers. I believe there's going to be an announcement today."

Kawhi Leonard reportedly asked to be traded to the Lakers when he was with the Spurs. If the Lakers sign him, it would contradict ESPN's Jalen Rose's report that the Raptors had a 99 percent chance to re-sign Leonard.

[/]{"component": "embedHTML", "code": "<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">WHAT IT DO BAYBEEEEE<br /><br />Happy Birthday to the legend Kawhi Leonard! No way. I just don't. If you watch his actions over the course of his career, he is his own man. He does not give a hell about what anybody says... He's going to do what he wants to do."

Leonard averaged 28.5 points, 9.8 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 2.0 steals and 1.2 blocks on 43.3 percent shooting in 40.5 minutes over six games in the NBA Finals against the Warriors, becoming the first player since Larry Bird in 1984 to lead the league in points, rebounds and steals in an entire playoff.

He finished with 732 points in this playoffs, the third-most by any player in a single playoff behind Michael Jordan in 1992 (759) and LeBron James in 2018 (748). Now it seems that we are just a few hours away from knowing what Leonard will do.

*Update from Cris Carter:

"#KawhiUpdate: After looking like we would find out today, we will not. Kawhi is still undecided & is not going to finalize his decision today. Also, contrary to other reports, Kawhi is NOT interested in signing a 1 or 2 year deal. When he signs, it will be a long term contract."

Odds to be the first to officially report the Kawhi Leonard signing
(Cortesy of Bovada):

Adrian Wojnarowski +120

Shams Charania +450

Chris Haynes +500

Cris Carter +600

Marc Stein +850

Lakers +1000

Zach Lowe +1100

Tim MacMahon +1100

Raptors +1200

Lakers +900

Clippers +1500

Kawhi Leonard +1800
