Two of the lower scoring and slower tempo teams matchup tonight when Utah visits Memphis. In their two previous matchups they finish with a couple really low final scores. Who will be our NBA pick?

NBA odds experts have come out with the total for this game at 194 like at 5 Dimes at -110. For my NBA pick tonight I will back under the total as I just don't see these two teams getting up and down the floor. Both teams play very good defense which will be the focal point of tonight's matchup.

Utah Jazz
Utah averages 97.9 points per game and defensively rank second in the league in opponent field goals attempted and made per game. Currently they're on a four-game losing streak but three of those games were to some of the best teams in the league in the Spurs, Celtics, and Raptors. On the season Utah has been somewhat efficient in scoring the basketball but their pace is really slow as they average 80.7 field goal attempts per game which ranks second to last in the NBA. On top of that they only average making 36 of those shots which also ranks second to last in the NBA. On the defensive side they are really good and only allow 97.3 points per game which ranks fourth in the NBA and they also rank in the top five in three-pointers attempted per game, opponent assist per game, and opponent points in the paint. This is a good defensive team that doesn't push tempo and will be more than happy to grind it out with Memphis.

Memphis Grizzlies
Memphis averages 99.2 points per game and rank first in the NBA in opponent field goals attempted and made per game. This is really the guts of the play tonight as we have two teams on the defensive side that rank first and second in field goals attempted and made per game. I'm a little bit surprised that odds makers have set this total as high as they have because statistically this game sets up to be quite slow-paced and more focused on getting stops. Memphis mirrors Utah in a lot of ways except offensively both their efficiency and effective field-goal percentage rank among the bottom of the NBA. In just about every offensive statistic they rank at least in the bottom third. Currently they have won four out of their last five games because they've been playing very good defense and I don't expect them to suddenly change the dynamic tonight.
