Anthony Davis’ status for Thursday's game is clouding the NBA picks in Brooklyn, but with the NBA odds of 216½ for the total, either way Davis swings the under is a fine value.

Pelicans Vs. Nets

This game all revolves around Davis and whether he will play. The Pels’ All-Star suffered a hip pointer a few days ago, and while X-rays where negative he is still sore and is listed as questionable tonight.

Davis downplayed the injury when asked about it, but the beauty of this whole thing is that the total of 216½ is too high regardless. If Davis misses, the Pelicans’ offense is going to take a serious downgrade. Against any other team, the Pelicans’ downgrade on defense would concern me enough to where I’d lay off this game.

However, this is the Nets without Jeremy Lin we’re talking about. Despite playing at the league’s fastest pace, they are only averaging 102.7 points per 100 possessions. The Pelicans’ defense is already good. If Davis plays, that just means the Nets might not score more than 95 points.

That’s why the total for this one is so surprising. The Pelicans have cashed the 'under' in six of their last eight games overall and in 11 of their 18 road games. The Nets, on the other hand, have averaged fewer than 100 points per game over their last five and have cashed the 'under' in nine of their last 12 games overall.

Don’t worry about Davis’ presence too much in this one, because the 'under' is a great play regardless, especially with the sharps moving the line up by a point already. Only trust The Sharp and take the under.
