The Indiana Pacers and San Antonio Spurs are two teams that are flying under the radar right now in the NBA. Who’ll have the upper hand in their matchup on Monday night, for our NBA Pick?

NBA Pick: Pacers +8.5
Best Line Offered: at Pinnacle

Although most of the attention in the Western Conference is paid to the Golden State Warriors, who have lost just once so far this season, the San Antonio Spurs have been fantastic too and are not far behind. They are 23-5 on the season and enter Monday’s matchup as winners of five straight and nine of their last 10. They’re on a roll right now as they’re latest win was by eight points (over the Los Angeles Clippers) but prior to that, they had won four straight by a margin of 25.7 points per game.

As for the Pacers, they’ve been a fairly solid bet on the NBA odds this season but they’ve cooled off of late. They’ve won three of their last four games but on a greater scale, are just 4-5 over their last nine games. They are fresh off a loss at Memphis where they had their second-worst offensive output of the season. They scored just 16 points in the first quarter and 84 for the game.

These two teams played a couple of very close matchups last season, so we could see more of that. The Spurs won both contests by a total of eight points. Overall, they’ve won 14 of the last 15 meetings and 12 of the last 13 at home.

The Spurs offense is rolling right now as they’ve scored 107.8 points per game in December, which is the fourth-most in the NBA. Their +18.9 points differential is the best in the league this month too. The good news for the Pacers is that they’ve been respectable at the defensive end of late and that will come in handy. They’ve allowed just 98.5 points per game in December and have been even better of late. Over their last four games, the Pacers have held their opponents to just 91 points per game. If they’re to have a shot on Monday, they’ll have to play some stellar defense and keep this game close.

What’s The Pick?
Road games have been a problem for the Pacers, which is something that makes it hard for me to take them with my NBA picks in this spot. They’ve lost four straight away games and are just 6-7 on the road this season. That’s a stark contrast to the Spurs home-court advantage as they’ve won all 15 of their home games so far. However, the history between these two teams shows that the Pacers do a decent job of covering the spread. They covered both meetings last season and have covered the spread in three of the last four showdowns. That being the case, I’ll take a shot with them on the betting lines and take the 8.5 points. I can’t see them winning outright but they should cover.
