The last time Washington and San Antonio met up the Spurs came away with a 112-100 road win. That game was just last week. Can Washington keep this game closer than their last matchup?

Washington Wizards

Washington is coming off a tough overtime loss at Oklahoma City but have won three out of their last five games and seem to be playing a bit better basketball than when they started the season. Currently, they're averaging 102.8 points per game while allowing 105.7 both which rank 20th in the NBA. The first few weeks of the season they really were not playing any type of defense but recently they've picked things up just a little bit by controlling some tempo allowing opponents to just get up 84.6 attempts per game which rank 13th in the league.

Slowly but surely head coach Scott Brooks is learning that the squad is just a different type of makeup then he had at OKC and they need to focus more on the defensive end if they're going to be competitive at all this season. This has become evident this past week but they will have to play extremely well if they're going to hang in with one of the best teams in the league. Offensively they have been decently efficient all season but having just played San Antonio should help them stay within the number.

 San Antonio Spurs

After beating Washington by 12 points on the road odds makers have come out making San Antonio just under a double-digit favorite at home in this matchup. The machine continues to roll in San Antonio and currently they're starting to control tempo on the defensive end allowing opponents just 97.8 points per game which ranks third in the NBA as well as allowing just 82.3 attempts from the floor per game which ranks sixth. However, they are still a bit off from where they were last year and right now they are allowing opponents to shoot 45% from the floor which is pretty pedestrian for them ranking them in the middle of the league.

On the other side of the ball, they have been good doing what they do best in shooting 40% from distance which ranks first in the league and being a very efficient team ranking seventh and ninth in shooting efficiency and effective field-goal percentage respectively. All that being said though this is just too many points to give a Washington team that should come in with a lot of confidence and keep this game reasonably close.

NBA Odds

Oddsmakers have made San Antonio -9.5 favorite across the board. For my NBA pick I'm going to back Washington +9.5 because I like how they match up with San Antonio and I believe they will keep this game relatively close. Grab the points.
