The Hornets and Knicks are both well into tanking mode, but the Knicks have turned into one of the league’s worst teams without Kristaps Porzingis. Tonight against a still talented Hornets team, are the Knicks going to be able to slow down the Charlotte offense?

We’ve talked about this some before on a few of our post-All Star Break picks, but the Hornets have turned the corner offensively after the break. Since the All-Star Break, the Hornets rank 5th-best in the league in offensive rating, averaging 112.3 points per 100 possessions over their last 12 games.

Now that they are playing a Knicks team that’s giving up 118.5 points per 100 possessions during that same stretch, and you have to think there will be plenty of points scored tonight.

The first time these two played this season, the final score was 118-113, and while the Knicks have a lot less offensive firepower now, the improvements to the Hornets’ offense and the lack of Knicks defense without Porzingis is going to be noticeable in this one.

On top of all this, both these teams are playing at a pace of more than 100 possessions per game since the All-Star Break. Take a look at clips from the Hornets’ last game against the Hawks. Atlanta has a defense that’s almost as bad as New York’s, and if this game is played up in pace like that one a few days ago, the over is a fantastic play tonight.

With the Hornets giving up more than 113 points per 100 possessions on the road since the break, the Knicks should be able to put up enough points at home to keep this one close. In turn, that should help the overall score of this one, making the over the play tonight.
