How will the Trail Blazers fare without one of their starters? They'll host the Hornets tonight as the NBA betting favorites, and we've got our top NBA picks for the matchup inside.

Odds Overview
Early NBA Odds show the Trail Blazers, who are 5-2 ATS this season, favored by eight points at the top sportsbooks. Considering Portland hasn't been unstoppable by any stretch of this imagination thus far, we think that number may be a tad on the high side. But that's just one person's opinion.

As for the game's total, it can be found at 197.5 points, suggesting that we're not going to see much of a defensive battle. The UNDER, though, has hit in five of Portland's first seven games heading into Tuesday.

Portland Trail Blazers
It's been an up-and-down start for the Trail Blazers, who currently own a 4-3 overall record for the season.

Portland's four wins have come over the Thunder, Cavaliers, Mavericks and Nuggets, with their losses coming to the Kings, Warriors and Clippers.

On Sunday, the Trail Blazers pulled away from Denver in a 116-100 win at home. They shot 45.0 percent from the field overall, but were on fire from beyond the arc, going 16-for-31 (51.6 percent). Portland was beat up inside, getting outscored by a significant margin, but made up for it with their red-hot shooting.

Wesley Matthews led the way with five threes on his way to 21 points, with LaMarcus Aldridge dropping 28 points, nine rebounds and four assists. Damian Lillard, Nicoals Batum, Robin Lopez and Chris Kaman all scored in double figures as well, while Steve Blake added nine points and four dimes off the bench.

Of course, the Nuggets have been known to be a laughingstock when it comes to defense, but we should still credit Portland for a fine offensive display. We expect it to be a lot more difficult against a better defensive team in Charlotte this evening, especially since Batum (knee) has already been ruled out for the game.

Charlotte Hornets
Expectations are high for the Hornets this season, and after an unlikely playoff run last year, Charlotte proved its intent by going out and signing prized free agent Lance Stephenson. So far, however, the results haven't been all that great, with the Hornets limping out to a 3-4 start this season.

The team has notched wins over the Bucks, Heat and Hawks, with the losses coming to the Grizzlies, Knicks, Pelicans and Lakers. The Hornets have been off since Sunday's 107-92 loss to LA inside the Staples Center.

Considering the Lakers had yet to win a game before Sunday, it was not a good showing from Charlotte. And that's putting it nicely. They hit only three 3-pointers in all (out of 14 attempts) and hit 44.3 percent from the floor overall - Al Jefferson and Kemba Walker were the only two to really play well in the loss, as they combined for 40 of the team's 92 points.

Ahead of Tuesday night's game, the Hornets are ranked 21st in scoring, having put up an average of 95.9 points per game. Meanwhile, they're allowing 98.3 points a contest, which puts them 13th in the NBA on that end of the court.

NBA Pick
It's tough going against the Trail Blazers given their home-court advantage, but for our NBA Pick we think the absence of Batum shouldn't go unnoticed.

Batum does a little bit of everything, and we believe Portland will miss his contributions on both ends of the floor.

The Hornets will want to put Sunday's abomination behind them, and we feel like they'll be a lot more competitive tonight. Three of their four losses have come by single digits, so it's not like they've been getting blown out - we look for that to continue in Portland and will back Charlotte as the sizable NBA betting underdogs.
