The Rockets are one of the most dangerous teams in the NBA with their high-octane offense. On Thursday, they visit Charlotte, a team the Rockets beat last month. The Hornets have struggled recently, and oddsmakers have made them a small underdog at home. That's where we pounce.

Houston Rockets

The Rockets have struggled some over the past month, but they have won two in a row and three out of the last four heading into this one. Last time they met up with Charlotte, the Rockets largely dominated in winning 121-114 on NBA picks. Houston shot 48.4% from the field and 43.6% from distance while only getting up 82 total attempts. The biggest disparity was the fact that the Rockets got to the line 33 times compared to Charlotte’s nine.

Although they have been one of the most dominant offenses we have seen these past few years, the Rockets still are not very sharp on the defensive side of the ball. Currently they rank in the bottom part of the NBA in most defensive statistics, highlighted by allowing opponents to score 40.4 field goals per contest, which ranks them 27th. This could be a tough spot for the Rockets against a Charlotte team looking for revenge and which matches up very well with Houston.

Charlotte Hornets

Charlotte is coming off a brutal stretch in which it was on a seven-game losing streak before beating terrible Brooklyn on Tuesday. The Hornets really needed that win before the losing streak got out of control. Part of the skid can be attributed to a tough schedule. Four of the losses were on the road and the Hornets had to face Washington, one of the hottest teams in basketball, the best team in the NBA, Golden State, twice, and a really tough Utah team that is arguably the best defensive team in the league. Although the other losses against New York, Sacramento and Portland are not good defeats, two of those were on the road.

Charlotte ranks in the middle of the NBA in most statistics on both sides of the ball, highlighted by allowing opponents just 39.8 points in the paint, 44.8% shooting from the field and 104.4 points per game, ranking them fifth, seventh, and ninth in the NBA defensively. This is a well-coached team that has some talent, and this a small number on NBA odds, I think the oddsmakers understand the Hornets have a legit shot to win outright.
