Neither the Magic nor the Heat are having particularly good seasons so far. Today they meet in Miami and oddsmakers have made the hometown Heat a small favorite. Which team will come out tonight with a win?

Orlando Magic

Orlando comes into tonight’s contest after getting blown out at home versus Toronto by 30 points. In that contest, they shot about 40% from the floor along with an amazingly low 14% from distance. Tonight though traveling to Miami I believe gives them a good chance to bounce back and it looks to me that oddsmakers agree considering they have been made such a small underdog. Offensively they still rank among the worst teams in the league ranking 28th in shooting percentage, shooting efficiency, and effective field-goal percentage while averaging just 96.8 points per game which rank them, you guessed it, 28th in the league. However Miami is far from any kind of offensive juggernaut and right now Orlando is playing some decent defense, and over the past few weeks has been playing much better basketball than the beginning of the year. I believe head coach Frank Vogel will have his team ready to bounce back from that blowout and with their decent defensive statistics, they should hold Miami to a reasonable number.

Miami Heat

Miami has lost two games in a row and is really struggling on the offensive end so far this season. Currently, they are averaging 97.3 points per game which rank them 27th in the league but their overall shooting percentages are really bad across the board. Miami is shooting just 43.5% from the floor which ranks him 26th in the league along with ranking 27th and 29th and effective field-goal percentage and shooting efficiency. They also ranked dead last in free-throw percentage hitting an ugly 66.2% from the charity stripe. On the other side of the ball, they have been a lot better allowing us 100.4 points per game which rank them seventh in the NBA. They also have been good percentage wise defensively allowing opponents that you just 44.3% from the floor which ranks of eighth in the NBA. However, I don’t really like how they match up with Orlando and this number gives me a little bit of pause. It seems to me that oddsmakers give Orlando a very good chance not just to cover but to win this game and I agree with them.

NBA Odds

Oddsmakers have made Orlando a +2.5 underdog across the board. For my NBA pick, I’m going to not even look at the points and back Orlando on the money line. I like for the Magic to win this game straight up.
