We’ve been running up the score with our first-half total NBA picks, but nothing else has been working as of late. That means it’s time for another one tonight when Detroit hosts New Orleans.

Normally we would be talking about the nasty-good frontcourt in New Orleans for this matchup, but over the past couple of weeks the Pelicans' DeMarcus Cousins has gone down and the Pistons have acquired their own dominating frontcourt.

The Pistons are 5-2 since making the trade for Blake Griffin. Even though they have lost their past two games, they are playing faster and looser, and putting up points in the first half. In their last five games the Pistons are averaging 53.6 points per first half. Against a team such as the Pelicans, who are now even worse on defense without Cousins, I see a higher-scoring first half in tonight's matchup, so that first-half number on the NBA odds board looks appealing.

Coming off a back-to-back this season, the Pistons are 4-4 cashing the "over" on the full-game total, and 7-2 in their last nine games cashing the full-game total on the "over."

This will be their first game played on no rest since getting Griffin but, for your NBA picks, that shouldn’t hurt them too much for this play. The Pelicans are allowing 60.4 points per first half over their last five games, and on the road this season that number is 55.8. Plus, considering the Pelicans are 13-9 cashing the full-game "over" against the East, look for the Pistons to fall off some on defense coming off a game Sunday.
