Miami Heat vs. Los Angeles Lakers
Friday, October 09, 2020 – 09:00 PM EDT at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex
Lakers opened as a 7.5-point favorite on the NBA odds with a total of 216.
LeBron and Company Have Their Eyes Set on The Trophy
The Los Angeles Lakers took a 3-1 series lead on Tuesday and will look to end this series in 5 games. Unfortunately, this may be the last game we will see in the “NBA bubble” this season if Miami can’t pull the outright upset. L.A. will be wearing their “Black Mamba” jerseys for this potential series clinching game, and they have yet to lose in the playoffs while wearing them going 4-0.
LeBron James and Anthony Davis are by far the best two players on the Lakers, but when they have a consistent third option, their offense is even more unstoppable. In the Game 4 win, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope stepped up big time for his teammates as he added 15 points and 5 assists, while shooting 50% from the field. Role players like Rajon Rondo, Markieff Morris, and Kyle Kuzma have also made some key plays in the last couple of games to give their superstars some help. When the second unit is playing as well as the starters, the Los Angeles Lakers are by far the scariest team in the NBA.
Will Miami Have Enough Fight Left in Them to Extend the Series?
Jimmy Butler could definitely use some help from his teammates if they would like to keep their championship hopes alive. Especially since the Lakers have put their best two defenders on Butler to keep him from taking over the game, as they held him to a series-low 22 points. Goran Dragic remains out with a foot injury after doing everything in his power to play in Game 4, but Miami did get their All-Star center Bam Adebayo back in the 102-96 loss.
The Miami Heat have the personnel to keep up with the Lakers, but their inexperience on the big stage has hurt their chances to win this series. Kendrick Nunn went 2-11 from the field and missed several open shots in Game 4, while Jae Crowder was non-existent after making two early 3-pointers. Tyler Herro and Duncan Robinson have been solid 3-point shooters all season, but they have yet to make an impact in the Finals. We would need to see another heroic game from Jimmy Butler like we did in Game 3 in order for Miami to extend the series.
The NBA Pick
As long as the Lakers come out with motivation and focus to win the championship in their Mamba jerseys, I see them coming out firing early. Expect LeBron James and company to build a lead in the early stages of the game to make sure it won’t go down to wire in the fourth quarter. For today’s NBA prediction, I’m riding with the Lakers -4 in the first half to come out strong in this closeout game.
