The NBA Playoff series between Heat and Hornets continues Friday night. Hornets currently leads the series 3 games to 2, after “stealing” the game Wed night. NBA pick inside.

Miami Heat vs. Charlotte Hornets (-2) 8:00 ET ESPN
The series has made a face after the first 2 games in Miami. Now, it is time for a changing of the guard between a Miami franchise that has been highly successful in the Dwayne Wade years and an upstart Charlotte franchise which is just coming into their own after their best campaign in recent memory.

With Miami holding the experience and home court edge against a less experienced franchise such as the Hornets, Miami won the first 2 games of the series (123-91) and (115-103). The games went soaring OVER the posted TOTAL when Miami averaged 119 PPG and shot 58%. Since that time, however, it has been the Charlotte defense that has dominated the series.

In the last 3 games, Miami has averaged just slightly over 84 PPG, while shooting under 39%. Coming off 3 consecutive losses, one might expect great intensity, passion and hunger from a veteran Miami franchise. But, the reality is that single-digit favorites in the NBA Playoffs vs. a foe who is coming off exactly 3 losses has been like “money in the bank” in NBA Playoff history.

On the floor, the key to the Charlotte win will come in their notable home/road dichotomy, as well as their attitude. With losses in Games 3 and 4 on this court, Miami is now 20-23 on the road. At the same time, Charlotte is now 32-11 at home. The Charlotte uptick that began shortly after the first of the year has continued in the playoffs, as they have built chemistry and confidence.

Betting Analysis
Key to the Charlotte success may come in the attitude expressed by their feisty floor leader, Kemba Walker, who said “We definitely have a chip on our shoulder. It doesn’t get talked about … the things that we do. We have a huge chip on our shoulder.” That is exactly the type of attitude Charlotte will need to get this victory.

The Hornets have not won a playoff series since a victory over Orlando in 2002. If you are concerned about fading Miami in an elimination game, be consoled by the fact that since Miami star, Wade, entered the NBA some 12 years ago, the Heat are only 8-7 SU when facing elimination!
