Our NBA consultant analyzes the regular season finale tonight between Miami and Philadelphia. How will this meaningless game play out from a betting perspective? He has the answers in this informative betting preview article which includes a selection on the total.
Regular Season Finale between Heat and 76ers
The 76ers and Heat will close their season tonight at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia. The opening tip is slated for 8:05 PM ET. According to the NBA betting odds at BetOnline, the game is a pick, and the posted total is 199.5. Miami has gone 2-1 SU&ATS versus Philadelphia this season, and two of those three contests went over the total.
Disappointment for the Heat
The Miami Heat was eliminated from postseason contention by virtue of an Indiana Pacers 99-95 win over Washington last night. It will be the first time since 2005 that a team who reached the NBA Finals the previous season, failed to make the playoffs in the following year. Miami was able to keep their hopes alive with a 100-93 home win over Orlando on Monday. However, truth be told, they went 4-9 in their last thirteen games, and that’s what ultimately sealed their fate. The Heat enter tonight having seen five of their previous seven games go over the total.
Dismal Season comes to a merciful End
The Philadelphia 76ers enters their regular season finale tonight with a horrible 18-63 record. They’ve also lost nine games in a row, and eleven of their last twelve. The 76ers have gone over the total in each of their last four, and six of the previous seven games. Those high scoring games took place despite Philadelphia shooting less than 40% from the field in five of their last six contests. Although, the 76ers defensive play was certainly a key contributing factor, allowing 101-points or more in six of those seven contests, and opponents shot 49% or better from the field on four of those seven occasions.
My personal experience has shown that meaningless games this late in the season, between two teams that are out of playoff contention, constitutes very little attention to detail from a defensive standpoint. Obviously the books agree with my assessment since this will be the highest total in eight games for Philadelphia, and also the largest for Miami in thirteen contests. I like this one to top the 200-point barrier, and as a result I’m lean toward using the total for one of my NBA picks on Wednesday.
NBA Pick: Miami and Philadelphia to go over the total of 199.5 at BetOnline.
