The New Orleans Pelicans are struggling again this year after having to deal with some injuries. I feel that this is a pretty talented team though and I like for them to take care of business tonight hosting Atlanta.

Atlanta Hawks

Atlanta is on the second leg of a back to back after traveling to Orlando, but they are also coming off a big win over San Antonio in overtime at home. They simply have not been as sharp as they were last year but still remain one of the best teams in the Eastern conference. Currently, the Hawks are averaging 102.3 points per game while allowing 103.9 which ranks them in about the middle of the league in both categories. What is probably a bit disconcerting for head coach Mike Budenholzer is the fact that Atlanta has not played the type of defense that we have seen in years past. Atlanta is allowing opponents to shoot 45.3% from the floor and over 36% from distance ranking them 15th and 22nd in the league respectively. They also rank 20th and 22nd in opponent effective field-goal percentage and efficiency. Those are not good numbers and with them coming into New Orleans off a back to back I believe they will have trouble stopping Anthony Davis and the Pelicans. Look for New Orleans to put up a lot of points tonight.

New Orleans Pelicans

New Orleans is coming off a loss at Cleveland after winning four games in a row and look to get back on track tonight at home. I believe as the season continues we are going to see a much improved New Orleans team as they start to get healthier. Statistically, they have been surprisingly solid on the defensive side of the ball allowing opponents to shoot just 44.2% from the floor which ranks fifth in the league, as well as 34.7% from distance which ranks them sixth. This is a far cry and what we have seen from any squad coached by Alvin Gentry so it makes me believe that this organization is headed in the right direction. Conversely, their offensive numbers have not been as sharp as last year with New Orleans averaging just 102.3 points per game and shooting just 43.8% from the floor ranking them 22nd and 26th respectively. Still, having the best player on the floor tonight in Davis should push them to another victory, and with oddsmakers making this line small I like New Orleans to win this game by more than five points.

 NBA Odds

Oddsmakers have New Orleans as a -2.5 favorite and for my NBA pick, I will back them minus the points. This is a tough spot for Atlanta to come in and play at a high level and I like how the Pelicans match up with them. Lay the points.
