The Hawks have gone from the number one seed to a middling playoff team, while the Pacers look like one of the three best teams in the East. So, who will be the NBA pick tonight in Indiana?

NBA Pick: OVER 205½

Post-Christmas Blowouts
Both of these teams played well on the day after Christmas, and both earned blowout wins against their respective opponents. Now tonight the NBA Odds have the Pacers as -2 favorites, with a total of 205½. Indiana has been one of the better defense teams in the NBA at home this season. They are giving up less than 96 points per game when they play at home in Bankers Life Fieldhouse, and they are excellent bets on the under most of the time at home, with a record of 10-4 so far this season.

The Hawks took care of the Knicks pretty easily on Boxing Day a few nights ago, but the Pacers present a matchup problem for the Hawks, After losing DeMarre Carroll to free agency this past summer, the Hawks have really struggled to defend wing players. Having Thabo Sefolosha back after his stint on the injury list because of shitty New York City cops helps a lot, but Sefolosha is at the point in his career where he can try to stop Paul George, but he likely won’t succeed. If PG13 is running wild tonight, the Hawks stand little chance of winning this game.

While George hasn’t looked great over his last few games, the Hawks present a matchup where he could once again drop 25 points and fill up the accounting stats pretty easily tonight.

These two teams have yet to play one another this season, but the Hawks have a nice winning streak going into this game. After losing four of their first six games to start the month, the Hawks have rallied off six straight wins in their last six games. While some of the games were against sub par opponents, the Hawks so have nice wins against the Celtics and Pistons included in that streak.

The Sharp Pick
What was most impressive about the winning streak for the Hawks has been their offense. For the first 20 games of the season, the Hawks looked average at best on offense, but in their six-game winning streak, the Hawks are averaging more than 111 points per game. If they have figured something out, going up against a Pacers team that plays at an extremely fast pace tonight is going to make the over one hell of a play. While both of these teams play pretty solid defense, Indiana and Atlanta play at paces that are in the top half of the league, and if the Hawks are scoring this much against slower paced teams, they are going to ramp it up in their game against the Pacers.

The Hawks average just over 100 points per game on the road this season, and against the smaller Indiana front line, the Pacers could have some issues guarding Paul Millsap and Al Horford in this one. The over has now cashed in five games in a row for the Hawks, and four of their last six road games as well. Plus, even though they have yet to play this season, the over has cashed in the last three meetings for these teams. Take OVER as the smart NBA pick tonight.
