The Hawks look to gain a 3-0 series lead on Saturday over the Nets, but the hosts strike an attractive pose on the NBA odds board for the upset. Join us as we preview this game & serve our NBA picks.

Atlanta Hawks Have Edge
The Atlanta Hawks go into game 3 of their first round series with the Brooklyn Nets up 2-0, underscoring their credentials as the top seed in the Eastern Conference. If there were a criticism to be had it's that they've been a tad underwhelming.

The Hawks finished the regular season setting a new franchise record for victories, but in the NBA playoffs they've been made to work hard for the "W." That's down in part to their injury list and also down to the Brooklyn Nets punching above their weight class.

Sunday's opener saw the Hawks frit away a 16-point lead to eke out the 99-92 win but fail to cover as the 11.5-point home faves. Wednesday's game 2 of the series finished with the Hawks winning 96-91 and, once again, failing to cover as the 9-point home chalk.

Given how hard they were made to work at home for the win, there are those NBA bettors that are considering the real possibility the Hawks might find it more difficult to win on the road than originally anticipated. Certainly, more difficult than the NBA betting odds would suggest.

As it is the Atlanta Hawks are the road favourites at -145 NBA odds to win outright in game 3, but they've not done enough in the postseason to completely justify such favouritism. The Hawks haven't overpowered them or dented their confidence in any way to suggest they are going to be out of their depth. Instead Twice the Nets have been able to rally and close the gap on the scoreboard to a handful of points, giving the Hawks something to think about.

Now, with home court advantage and the crowd totally behind them, they might be able to put forward a much better fight, if not outright spring a surprise on the Hawks.

Brooklyn Nets Look To Spring Surprise
Even though the Nets have nothing to show for their efforts they must be buoyed by the respectable start to their NBA Playoffs. Nobody at the start of the postseason gave them a chance, let alone believed they could be so competitive. Tale told the Brooklyn Nets have been able to hang with the Hawks, pulling off the cover in both games. In game 3, they'll hope to do one better and get the pivotal "W."

Odds makers send the Nets into this clash as the decisive underdogs, matched at +125 to win outright and as the 2.5-point home underdog on the NBA odds board . This is partly down to their 19-22 SU and 16-23-2 ATS record at home, which features a 2.3-point margin of defeat. As well, it's down to the overall impression of the quality and depth of the Atlanta Hawks, underscored by their remarkable season.

In the NBA playoffs, however, the Nets have made regular season stats appear to be a moot point thus far. They've been tougher to beat than most expected them to be and, the best bit, they're sure to try to be even tougher to beat when they kick off game 3 at home.

NBA Betting Verdict
By and large, the Atlanta Hawks are the popular NBA pick to win the series outright. They are also the bet of choice to win game 3 in NBA betting circles. Yet, Brooklyn Nets strike an attractive pose as the nominal +125 underdogs at home to come away with the rare shocker. It seems only fair that they get at least one game of this series for the effort they've shown. Never mind the NBA playoffs would do with a few more upsets to spike up the competition and, in turn, entertainment value. In any event, it's a long shot NBA pick, so tread carefully.
