NBA Picks: Grizzlies vs. Mavs
So, hockey people beware!
Tonight, one of the games I have in store for you is the Memphis Grizzlies on the road in Dallas to face the Mavs. Memphis comes in as a -2 favorite on the road this evening, with an over/under of 188. After Memphis’ big overtime win last night against San Antonio at home, will they have enough emotion and energy to beat the Mavs in Dallas?
Grizzlies get staple win
Memphis has been hanging around the 4th seed all season, and trailing the likes of Oklahoma City, San Antonio and the Clippers all season. That gap narrowed last night, and even though Tony Parker hit a game tying shot to go into overtime, the Grizzlies would not give up their home court, and beat the Spurs in overtime, 101-98.
Six Grizzlies were in double figures once it was all said and done, including 23 from Rudy Gay (a guy with multiple trade rumors surrounding him) and 21 from Mike Conley (10-10 FT).
After a hard fought and emotional win on their home court, the Grizzlies had to hop on a plane to make the flight to Dallas. While not a short flight, back to back games are starting to wear on teams, and that is why the NBA Odds have the Grizzlies as such small favorites in this one.
We saw how the back to back affected the Knicks last night against my Bulls, and even though Carmelo Anthony did his best to bring his team back in the 2nd half, it wasn’t enough.
Memphis has gotten lucky this season, as this will be only their sixth back-to-back game this season. The Grizzlies are 3-2 SU in their five games on the second night of a back to back this season.
Dirk back; will it be enough?
The Mavs are likely one and done with titles this time around, and Dirk Nowitzki may be playing his last few games in a Mavs uniform. Dallas is 14-23 SU this season, which is a game and a half back of the Lakers of all teams, with only three teams looking up at them in the standings.
I think we are going to see the Mavs very active at the trade deadline, either buying or selling. If they can land a Danny Granger, Rudy Gay, or even a JJ Reddick, it could help them into the playoffs.
However, I think they are going to sell. While it remains to be seen if they will trade Dirk during the season, if the Mavs finish in the lottery this season, I can almost guarantee he gets traded before draft night. Nowitzki has only a season left on his contract after this season, which would make him very attractive to a team trying to win now. Also, the Mavs have literally every one of their contracts up after the 2013-2014 season, so it would benefit them to starting selling now or this offseason to get the most value in return.

The Sharp Pick
Neither team has any major injuries of note, and besides the Grizzlies being tired after last night, this will be a game where defensive intensity and consistency on offense will gain the win. Dallas gives up a ton of points, but the Grizzlies don’t score a lot due to their own defense
After last night’s win, I think Memphis will go down tonight. So, I'm puting the Mavs on my NBA betting ticket. Their offense and defense will likely suffer off last night’s big game, and I think OJ Mayo is about to greet his old team with a spectacular game. Along with Nowitzki, I think Dallas will upset Memphis tonight.
