After cruising to victory with last night, I come back Wednesday night with your top NBA played backed by a Playoff situation that has recorded 90% pointspread winners.

Memphis Grizzlies vs. Golden St. Warriors 10:30 ET TNT TV
After Golden St. cruised to a 101-84 win in Memphis Monday night, these two teams continue their Round 2, best of 7 series tied at 2 games apiece, and the Warriors are listed as the favorites on the NBA betting odds.  The venue now switches to Golden State where these teams split a pair of games at the beginning of this playoff set. The Warriors took the first game (101-86) before the Memphis defense led the Grizzlies to a (97-90) victory in Game 2, two nights later. Those scores are a microcosm of this series that is tied at 2 games apiece.  Memphis has recorded a pair of victories, when their defense and rebounding carry the day, such as a Game 3 win in Memphis (99-89) in which they held Golden St. to 6-26 from behind the arc.  But, when the Warriors heat up from 3 point land, it is tough for Memphis to keep pace.  In Monday’s (101-84) Golden St. win, the Warriors were 14-33 from behind the arc, while Memphis was 4 for 18 from tripleville.  That is an amazing difference of 30 points. Memphis still showed their superiority on the glass, outrebounding Golden St. by 4 and their defense was solid forcing 21 TOs. That makes 38 combined TOs for the Warriors in the last 2 games.

Now, it is time for Memphis to make the adjustments and to ratchet up the defensive pressure once again.  For the Grizzlies to win, they will need to continue to pound the ball inside to Gasol and Randolph.  This interior duo has scored in double digits each contest, including Game 4. There, Gasol scored 19 with 10 boards and 6 assists, while Randolph scored 12 points with 11 assists.  With those numbers representing consistency in the series, it is clear that the tide of this game will turn on the Grizzlies’ ability to limit the splash brothers from knocking down their triples.

In the Game 4 victory, NBA MVP, Stephen Curry, erupted for 33 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists.  For Golden St. to repeat the victory, the Warriors must continue to find ways to get Curry and Thompson open looks from behind the arc, as well as limit the inside effectiveness of Gasol and Randolph.

As in the other 4 games, it is the Memphis’ power game, defense and rebounding matching up against the open court prowess and 3 point shooting of the Warriors. Though Golden St. is a respected 42-3 on their home court this season, the Warriors’ pointspread stranglehold on this court has eroded. Since March 23rd, Golden St. is just 2-7 ATS as home chalk.  In a nod to defense and rebounding being key elements of playoff success, consider that Memphis was 32-18 ATS in NBA Playoff action L4+Y.  Of greater interest to technicians is the notation that in NBA playoff action, greater than .580 road teams, coming off exactly one loss and getting 7 or more points, are a 90% ATS play against greater than .750 foes.
