One of the better rivalries in the NBA that doesn’t get talked about much is when the Clippers take on the Grizzlies. On Thursday, L.A. plays the second of a back-to-back as it visits Memphis.

Los Angeles Clippers

Los Angeles remains one of the more talented teams in the NBA but can sometimes play some pretty poor basketball. Although the Clippers beat Memphis in their last matchup, I don’t think they will be of the pull off a win here tonight against a solid Grizzlies team when they are on the second leg of a back-to-back. L.A. lost handily in Minnesota on Wednesday as a 3.5-point betting favorite.

On the season, the Clippers have been solid offensively in ranking in the top five in the NBA in overall shooting percentage, shooting efficiency and effective field-goal percentage. When they push some tempo, the Clips can really put up a lot of points. Defensively, they have been good, not great, in allowing opponents to shoot 45% from the floor and 35% from distance. L.A. is a well-rounded team with a good bench but I think this is a bad spot for them with them having played Wednesday on the road.

Memphis Grizzlies

Like Los Angeles, Memphis remains a little bit of an enigma and can be either hot or cold. Although the Grizzlies' offensive statistics are some of the worst in the NBA, like shooting just 43.5% from the floor, they make up for it on their defensive end. Memphis is allowing opponents to shoot 44.2% overall and 34.6% from distance, both of which rank fourth in the NBA. The Grizzlies also are allowing just 100.5 points per game, which also ranks them fourth, and they rank first in field goals allowed per game.

The Grizz always get up to play Los Angeles as this is an unheralded rivalry, so I believe they will be more than ready to play well and pick up a crucial home win. If the Grizzlies can slow the tempo down they should be able to handle business in what should be a real grind-out defensive battle. Lay the points with Memphis to win this game by more than five. These two teams have been going back and forth over the past 10 games with Los Angeles holding a slight 6-4 record in that stretch.

NBA Free Pick: Grizzlies -2.5

Best Line Offered: BetOnline

[/]{"component":"oddswidget", "eventId":3068703, "sportsbooksIds":[1096,169,274,238,123], "LineTypeId":1, "PeriodTypeId":1 }[/]
