Game Analysis

I am always leery of backing teams in my NBA picks that are playing the second leg of back-to-back games. That is precisely the situation for the Knicks, who travel to Boston after a 107-85 demolition of their crosstown rivals from Brooklyn. The last time these Atlantic Division foes met in Boston in late October, the Green dismantled the Knicks 110-89 as a seven-point home chalk. However, New York reciprocated the beating when the Celtics traveled to Madison Square Garden, 102-93.

Thus, the teams are 1-1 SU and ATS against each other this season, but Boston has a habit of avenging losses this season as evidenced by their 12-2 SU and 11-2-1 ATS mark in revenge situations. This is just such an occasion and the Knicks also have no time to rest their bones after their big win Tuesday night. Boston has a big defensive advantage tonight, allowing just 98.8 points per game, ranking No. 2 in the league behind San Antonio.

The thinking here is that the Celtics will control the low post and limit the Knicks to mid-range shots. Boston has the talent to pull away once the Knicks begin to struggle against their air-tight defense. I realize that the NBA odds on the C’s might be a bit steep for many bettors to digest eight points against a team that has won their last two, but when New York loses the game they generally don’t cover the number. Let’s look for a repeat of what happened the last time the Knicks visited TD Garden when they were waxed by 21 points. Back the Shamrocks here.
